re: 2021-22 decoy spreads

It amazes me how many people don't realize what hunting an area that ducks use with 6 decoys of any kind, a wigeon whistle, and a dozen shells can accomplish.

Looks like oyster mushrooms. I won't go on record but will say that I'd dig in...
Because original piping was lead, plumbum in Latin hence, the periodic table symbol, Pb.
This is what I do for a living. On a domestic scale, you can probably just add some standpipe to the plumbing line if you have the vertical space, you can slow the closing of the valve, or otherwise reduce the acceleration of the fluid. Anyone who hates the sound their ice maker makes when it stops filling is experiencing water hammer. Standpipe is similar to an alternative benefit that water towers serve.

On an an industrial scale, I have seen 8" steel pipe severed in half, pumps, relief valves, and instrumentation destroyed.

I can calculate the volume you'd need to eliminate or make it tolerable for you if you want.
Mrs Geaux and I had a really nice meal the other night at L'etoile on Post Oak if you're into french food. Its a small place so reservations are recommended...
Definitely not my favorite part of town. I live in Garden Oaks and have gone that way a few times but I try to keep lunches to about an hour but its usually hour and fifteen...
Fairly new to Houston and I work on the N Beltway just west of Greenspoint. Any recs for $10-$15/ person and say within 5-10 miles?
Sounds like this boat has a fairly deep vee, If I had a choice it would TRIM TABS 1000%...

How would we have had room for RN if he would have signed? What makes anyone think if PW wanted in we wouldn't take him?

Start at ST 151 and fish every rig, buoy, floating trash between there and the edge of the shelf. Wahoo come onto the shelf starting in December through about April to spawn. They are not deep in GC, ~150'-350' is what you're looking for and surface temps 67-74°...

I kind of like the small pub/ gastropub thing we're seeing more of. That said, HayMerchant/ Underbelly near Midtown and nearby in the Heights, Sheperd Park Draught House, Plonk Bistro, Petrol Station are all very good...

I'd leave them whole if you're going to cook it down long enough to be able to pull the breasts apart with a fork before plating...

Big Lake

Posted by geaux001 on 10/26/12 at 2:04 pm
I posted a while back about moving to Houston from New Orleans and finding some new fishing/ hunting opportunities fairly close to home and got some decent advice. Still haven't found a place to duck hunt that isn't priced sky high but I digress. I've come to the decision that I am going to try and start fishing around Lake Charles on the weekends and just rent a hotel on the weekends I can go. I come to you guys hoping to get some advice on where I might start. Any general areas, tips, etc that could point me in the right direction would be helpful. Any hotel/ camp recommendations?

I'm guessing this time of year there should be plenty of shrimp in the bays and finding fish under birds a good possibilty. I've there's a good flounder run this time of year there too. Just looking for a place to start, I can figure out the rest pretty quickly...

If anybody is willing to trade a couple close duck hunts, I'd be willing to offer an offshore trip or two out of Venice. Getting a little LA outdoor withdrawal kicking in...
More like real life 2.5's... It is just about impossible for 6' waves in Barataria Bay... Anybody who has truly been in 6' waves knows the feeling of being in a trough and seeing nothing but water and its a sinking feeling, pun intended...

re: Sliding cork rigs, what say the OB?

Posted by geaux001 on 7/30/12 at 12:34 pm to
Double rigs on any cork get messed mainly because the baits tumble over cork multiple times when they're cast. This because there's weight on the cork, at the end of the line and somewhere between the cork and end bait. The way to correct this is to cast sidearm as to lessen the tendency for the baits to flip over the cork. Better yet, use an unweighted cork when you're fishing tandem rigs...

re: Anyone own an Avet SX reel?

Posted by geaux001 on 7/27/12 at 11:07 am to
I have a couple of their 30W's as well and they aren't near as smooth as my Tiagras but again, they have so much drag, more than I can realistically hold without being harnessed, so I decided to convert them to my Amberjack and Grouper reels. Matched with 200# hollow core and a 250# mono topshot, I don't break anything off anymore unless something weird happens. I remember testing them once and I was able to get I think almost 40#'s of drag and still have freespool...

4 of them... Good reels for jigging tuna and snapper fishing. Back when I bought them they were the fastest reel with the most drag capability on the market. Not sure if that's true anymore with the advent of speed jigging and the new market it created. Bottom line is I've had them 6 or so years and haven't need to buy anything to replace them.
