yeah i hear ya. I bought a chevy 2500HD crew cab Z-71 4x4 diesel in 2008 so i will have to surpress the itch. If that 6.7L engine proves itself and the mileage claims my next truck will be a Super Duty. The fifth wheel hitch is a factory option and costs less than half of an aftermarket setup

I sell campers for a living. If you have a 5'7" bed then your hitch will be very expensive, (around $3,000). They make something called a Sidewinder that will work. If your bed is over 6' then it will be less. We have some 25-29 foot fifth wheels that are 8500 lbs or less that are made for the new generation half-ton trucks. I'm not promoting myself but I can get you any information that you need.

you at the dixie place or the berry place?

I believe he works at the Berryland Outlet in Holden. He mentioned that in a previous thread about campers. Good to see we have some other people on here into camping
I sold a deep-V center console to buy my first one and haven't looked back. The wife and kids really enjoy the camper.

most of my wife's family all have campers. 90% of the time, they go camping at fairview state park about 18 minutes from my house!

I love to fish and camp....so I am torn on my options....there are times I want a camper but the places I want to camp require a boat to fish.

If you are really brave and the boat isn't too big I have seen people tandem tow with 5th wheels.

that's already ruled out, he said he drives a chevy.

When it comes to over the road hauling I like to be as safe as possible. To much to risk when the family is tagging along. But yes I have seen this setup a few times as well.
Now we just set the tent up or get a cabin. Its probably cheaper than a trailer note each month but sometimes I would just like to have my own stuff.

I thought I was back on the OT for a second....

I have pulled two different 5ers with my 1/2 ton chevy. But, I have every towing option available including 3.7? rear end. No problem at all for me, but I would stay under 7,500 dry weight, under 1,300 pin-closer to 1,000 is best, and watch what you put in front storage. My current bunkhouse has rear storage, so not only am I not increasing pin weight, I'm probably taking some away. Pulls great.

I work at the berry place.

I hve a half ton truck and bought a 30' travel trailer a couple of years ago and now want a fifth wheel but after lots of research I'm convinced I can't get even close to what I want in a Fifth wheel that my truck could pull. All of the "light-weight" fifth wheels are too small and would max out my truck towing wise once I had them full of all my stuff. If you want a fifth wheel with room for a family you're pretty much going to have to have at least a 3/4 ton truck.

I agree. My 3/4 ton chevy is pretty much maxed out with my 32' Wildcat.

Oh, and DO NOT get advice at RV.net. The tow police over there want you to get a 1 ton for anything over 27 feet.

That's funny.

The wife and I want to just about go full time when we retire. Sell the house and buy a condo somewhere and spend the bulk of our time traveling in the RV. Can't decide if I would want a motorhome or a bad arse 5th wheel with dedicated tow rig.

If you go motorhome, protocol is to tow a jeep behind it.

Most definitely. We already agreed on a 4 door JK with mild lift and 35" tires
