Getting a pistol for my wife, and stuck between the S&W Ladysmith .38
Or the Taurus 85 ultra light .38

Now, the question is... Should I get the hammer, or no for concealed carried? Also, I know the Taurus doesn't compare to the S&W, but I would be saving $200. Should I shell out the $500, or can I save the money and not have to worry about it?

I've shot both, and noticed you can't aim for shite without the hammer. Don't want it to snag on anything either if she ever has to pull it out

Hammerless and the quality of S & W are well worth the extra $$$ IMO.

It's actually how much I get on her's hoping the Taurus misfires when she decides she's had enough! I was leaning more towards the S&W, but that one caught my eye, and knew y'all would steer me in the right direction

I was going to suggest you look at this as well. We bought one a couple of weeks ago with the main purpose being for the wife to carry in her purse. We have only been to the range once with it so far, but she got to where she was pretty accurate from 5-7 yards pretty quickly.
We got the one with the crimson trace laser on it, and she turned it off because it made her nervous before she pulled the trigger.

The 642LS is what I'm getting my wife. She checked it out out Cabelas and really liked the way it looked and felt in her hand. Also the fact that it's hammerless aka point and shoot. F the Taurus.

My fiancé has the S&W 38 and a Glock 26. She likes the Glock better.

snubbies are not easy for women to shoot. They fit their hands well but the recoil is rougher than a pistol

IMO, the thing about the hammerless j frames is that they don't require "learning" the weapon. No racking, cocking, taking off safety. You point and shoot. For the close range situations that would require my wife to pull the gun out of her purse, she wouldn't need time at the range to practice and therefore, it doesn't matter how much she likes to shoot it. I hope she never has to other than when she first shoots it just to see how it goes pop. After that, she won't have to think about anything except pointing and pulling the trigger to protect herself. All the other static about "like" and "comfort" are just that, static.

this.

told my husband that I wanted to just pull it out and shoot a mofo if I had to. I dont want to have to worry about shite jamming or the safety being on. If I ever have to use it on someone, I want em dead

this is mine:

DM,
Hammerless (sometimes called concealed or shrouded hammer) is preferred over exposed hammer for cc. The Ruger LCR and variations of the S&W are good choices. Some time ago I helped my d'ter w/ similar choice. Ended up w/ a Charter Arms, largely because she was pushed for time and couldn't find a Ruger or S&W anywhere. For practice, use as mild as possible 38 Spec rounds. For sd, use 38 +P rounds (short barrel ammo). If she likes the pink, you can buy a pink grip from Hogue, for bout $20. It's a 2 min project to swap out the grips.

When shooting a DAO gun, like a hammerless revolver, many shooters have a tendency to squeeze the trigger a little bit at a time while making fine adjustments to the sight picture. OTOH, many shooters shoot a DAO gun more accurately when they pull the trigger quickly in a single, smooth motion w/o a lot of sight picture adjustments. Try both and see if your accuracy improves.
