Do you have a local range that lets you rent handguns? If so, go there and have her shoot Sig P365, Walther PPS M2, Glock 43. Lacking that, go to a gun store and have her try racking each slide and pulling the trigger. Carrying iwb, she will need a single stack subcompact. I wouldn't suggest anyone carry a single action w/ thumb safety if they are used to that system.

how far north of I-10. There's a couple ranges in BR that rent guns so she can shoot a couple before buying. Id try to let her wear a couple too because the best shooting gun isn't any good if its a PITA to carry.

Replying to everyone here:

Thanks for all the posts. Its I've been with her to shoot a good bit. She handles pistols well and at this point prefers the shield. Has shot a Glock 43, Kimber micro .380, H&K 9mm, .38 revolver, shield in .40 and an old .32. Liked the feel of the shield, but .40 was a little much.

Please keep the recommendations coming, especially with regard to holsters.

Hammer- I misunderstood your post. Apologies.

I definitely agree, I should have said that. I wouldn’t recommend a hi point or anything like that

That rules out the 365

Plz keep us updated w/ your 365. Although it looks very promising, I wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone for cc until is has a proven track record of reliability.

Mine carries a S&W 38 j-frame in titanium.

Compact, light, won't jam, no worries about chambering a round.

YMMV

Me neither, the shield 9 will stay in that role until I run the Sig through the ringer.

She came in. Will put 200 rounds and 25 HP through her Thursday. 1st impression All the weight is in the slide. Not really a lot of polymer an it's really light. Trigger is for real.

You’ll be surprised how much more tame the 9mm version is, plus you get an extra round in the mag. Give that one a try and I bet she finds a winner since she already likes the feel of the gun.

I read that at first as “25 horsepower.” But definitely give us a range report. I also believe that would warrant a whole new thread since I bet you’ll get a lot of questions.
