Cold Air Intake system on 03 Z71?

Need help deciding whether to install one of these on the Z71. Have talked to folks who have liked its upgrade on performance, specifically the increase in MPG ( I know it's a very slight improvement). Any opinions here on the OB?
Brands?
Models?
TIA
EDIT: easy enough to install myself on a Saturday with tools and time to kill?

You MIGHT get a half MPG better if that's your only upgrade.
If you start putting a bunch of crap on there than it can become necessary.

Thanks. I put a lot of miles on her and even 1-2 mpg would help in long run. But dont know if benefit would outgrow upfront price.

I had one on my last truck and didn't really like it. There's no doubt that it does help, but to what degree depends on what other mods you have. It makes a noticeable difference on my current truck that is heavily modified.

This is what I needed to know
Anything else I can do with the damn thing to help my f*#'n 13/14 mpg? Have 33" and leveling kit on it

Wear a lighter right shoe mainly.
Take off the 33's and put stock sized tires

A programmer will help, but you will have to put higher octane gas which puts you at spending roughly the same amount.
The absolute main thing is use the skinny pedal less. Keep up with your basic maintenance. Don't carry around a shitload of excess weight.
It can only be so good while still being a practical usable vehicle.

That skinny pedal is pushed quite often. Im pulling a boat all through duck season. Sometimes during summer. Pros and cons of getting it tuned?
Y'all are being being help Appreciate it

If you get a programmer, you might be able to have a vacuum gauge on it. That dictates if you are on it hard. Watch it, and your mileage will come down.
Intake and exhaust are what people get the most. AEM, AFE, etc. are the better ones. I never liked K&N because you can see straight through the filter when it is clean. That is why they say it works better when dirty. I use aftermarket paper filters because they trap more shite, and also have a S&B intake.
If you can't put an intake on in less than an hour, you have problems

As mentioned you'll probably gain maybe half an mpg. And you might get a tiny bit more throttle response and a little more noticeable engine noise.
IMO, I don't think they are really worth the money. If you can get one used for a good price, go for it. Otherwise...nah.

Seems to be consensus. Appreciate the input thanks y'all.

Noticeable increase in power and a slight increase in fuel mileage. You can also re-calibrate your speedometer for the bigger tires which will give you a true MPG reading. You really don't know what you're getting right now because your speedo and therefor odometer are incorrect. You're actually getting worse mileage than you think right now.
The cons are it may be a little harder on your engine, you'll have to use higher octane fuel, you'll probably have to change your thermostat to a 180 degree stat, and you may get worse mileage because you'll be romping on it more.
Bolt ons like exhaust, cold air intake, and throttle body spacers do little unless used in conjunction with other modifications. For the exhaust to really make a difference you need aftermarket headers, high flow cats, mandrel bent tubing, and a flow through muffler.

You can re-gear your rear axle.
With doing the intake and jamming more air in, if you don't do anything to help move it out, you're not getting 100% of the benefit.

Shits expensive for the 4x4s. Definitely a good mod though. I installed 4.56's and a detroit tru trac on my old truck...really helped get it moving, but man f*ck that gas mileage

I'd love to put 4.56's in my truck, but I don't think they make em for my front chunk.
They'll work nicely when I get my dana 60 up front though

That's whats up lol
My truck would have been a monster if I had made the right cam choice. I was running LTs, dual cutouts, 3000 stall torque converter, 4.56s w/ tru trac, programmer, etc. Too big a cam = too big a pain in my arse.

That's gotta be post-new truck though.
On a truck???
frick that noise
