I like to buy used trucks with some life left in them rather than pay these crazy prices for trucks these days. So what are your thoughts and experiences with these year models, engines etc.

2011 Dodge Ram Big Horn Edition HEMI. 4x4 50 K miles for 19.5K
2012 Ford F-150 Platinum Edition, Turbo 6, 4x4 80 K miles for 22K
2013 Ford F-150 Crew Cab V8, Looks like an XLT type, 77K Miles for 21.5K

Anything to be worried about with these year models and engines? I lean toward the first 2 unless the V8 Ford is a better engine. Platinum obviously has more bells and whistles but I’m not really into all of that. Just need a solid machine for hunting and projects.

11-12 were the problem eco boost years if I recall.

Only truck in this lineup I’d consider even looking at.

V8 Ford. The v6 turbo would be useless without the turbo. Can't beat a Toyota though. Tundra or Tacoma

Tell that to my 2012 Tundra that had a leak in the cam tower seal at 140k miles. $4k to fix, which would involve removing the motor, breaking it open, and re-sealing. No truck is indestructible.

I drive a Chevy now.

This one all day long. Drive it and you'll buy it.

Edit: and for those that don't like it tell me about the EB you had. Mine had 140K and had never been in the shop except for normal repairs (brakes and a battery)

I have this exact truck in a supercab. 203,000 trouble-free miles on it.

My 2013 KR EB threw a rod bearing right at 100k. I'm now 35k into my brand new engine. Will let it go for 17k lol

Thanks for the input. Why the hate for the EB? Is it the engine overall or that year model? My dad has the 2015 King Ranch w EB and loves it. But maybe they’ve fixed some flaws on it?

i have a 2013 v8 xlt with 156k miles on it.
Motor and trans have been flawless...everything else has been a nightmare. Every 10k miles something is broken.
Last month was a AC evaporator and blower motor resister = $2k
2 moths before that was oil pan gasket - $600
2 months before that was cooling system leaks. Over time its been things like buttons/switches on the dash or steering wheel breaking, rear window defroster going out. Simple replacements but nickle and dime you to death.

I agree the price I listed is high. I think 19’s is reasonable for any of them.

Tundra...I like them a lot but try finding a Tundra with 75k miles for 20K. They are even more over priced. I literally drive this truck 5-10K miles a YEAR. I’ve set a low budget because of that. I have a company car I drive 90% of the time but it doesn’t do much for hunting and outdoors. I cant justify spending 25-35K on a truck to just sit. I can hardly stomach 15-20K but my 2001 Z71 is about done. Can’t really trust it anymore.

Those prices seem high.

Of those, go with the F150 V8.
