Got a new truck and want a cb radio installed in it... and I mean installed so that it works right.
I know somebody here knows the right answer... give it up.

He's at work so he won't be any help for a while
I believe they had a thread about this a few weeks ago and they said the best one was over near Krotz Springs or Livonia or some shite like that. I could be totally wrong though.

I've done that a few times...
there seems to be a few little tricks that make it work much better.

you had to bring that up, huh?
My wife has a too fast car with a too little speedo so I got lit up for 66 in a 55 in the middle of nowhere on 71 north.
Legal in BR on Airline, lined with businesses, but illegal in the woods lined with crawfish ponds.
fRick common sense.

I got popped a couple of weeks ago for 71 in a 55 between Bastrop and Rayville. MF'er was hiding off on a side road.

Buford T. Justice: Breaker, breaker for the Bandit.
Bandit: Come on back, breaker.
Buford T. Justice: You got trouble comin'. Big trouble.
Bandit: Well, what's your handle son and what's your 20?
Buford T. Justice: My handle is Smokey Bear and I'm tail grabbin' your arse right now!

FWIW, I want the radio mostly for traffic updates around BR.
I drive a LOT in BR, like several hours/day, and when I see the interstate backed up, I'd like to know if I need to jump off or not.
Even the two cell phones on my seat can't offer that immediate advice...

Cookie's cb shop is just north of the satsuma exit. Or there is Another on highway 90 next to the shell truck stop just before you get to Raceland. The last one I know of around here is on 190 around Port Barre, but I've never had work done over there

I've been to Cookies a few times and those frickers are never there. The shop on 190 is basically between Port Barre and I-49. They helped me figure out a ground problem on my truck which took 2hrs for like $40. Ended up being me just needing a longer coax cable. It is called Bordelon's. CBs are kinda picky about getting a good ground, so if you are unsure about your abilities, go get it done somewhere. Installation is basic, but you can be messing with it trying to get SWRs lower for days.
Get a good radio peaked and tuned, and you should be good to go. I have a Galaxy DX959 and haven't had any problems at all with it
