I’m looking to make a trip to Catfish Lake in my kayak. Are the ponds that are close to the launch used for duck hunting? It’s a quicker trip to the lake going through the ponds than going all the way through the main canals. However, I don’t want to mess up someone’s hunt, or get shot at.

The pic shows the approximate route I would take.

Those arent ponds but oil/gas canals with pump platforms. No one hunts that area. You are passing a lot of fish on that route. The duck hunting I know about is either north or south of Catfish Lake proper.

I usually plan my route depending on wind. The good thing about that area is due to canal random patterns, there is always moving water somewhere. Fish arent always there but its feast or famine. Right now is a good time to go though.

Maisweh is the local expert here. He might chime in.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably fish my way as I make my way out to the lake.

Another question: What area do y'all use for the tide guides on LA Sportsman?

Its giving me an error uploading the picture.
Dont pass that route. stay in the main canals. shite gets shallow this time of year and its full of pipelines that aren't submerged anymore.
You'll rip off your lower unit

I would stay the main canals. I've destroyed 3 lower units the past few years off of pipelines that were submerged but now arent. If I can figure out how to get the picture to post, I would. I sent one to UncleJackD

timbilair is more accurate than leeville for golden meadow.
leeville is the bayou and the east side.
timbilair is the west side + 3ish hours.
