Code says left cat is bad so, oem or aftermarket?
Magnaflow @Oreilly is $200 which isn’t as bad as I originally thought but no telling how much to install.
Opinions?

That needs to be cut and welded no? Or are you looking for a bolt on?

Yes cut/welded at muffler shop.
Now I need to find a shop in LC that I can trust to do good work.
Muffler shop says it’s probably not converter (would see loss of power).
Had code pulled last October and it was O2sensor but it went off.

What type of vehicle are we talking?
And before I spent money on cat, I'd have shop verify diagnosis. Pocket scanners and "free diag" at Autozone don't count.

2020 ford 150 2.7 motor, yes to that since muffler shop says same.
$50 diagnostic which I understand.

Looks like it came back on. Try cleaning the O2 sensor
quote:
Cleaning an oxygen sensor can remove carbon buildup using gasoline or carburetor cleaner, potentially resolving check engine lights and poor fuel efficiency. The process involves removing the sensor with a specialized socket, soaking the tip in gasoline for 12–24 hours, and cleaning with a soft brush before reinstalling with sensor-safe anti-seize.

Buy a plug extender screw it in and screw your O2 into that.

Depending on if it's an upstream or downstream sensor these things can be an absolute pain in the arse to change.
Have a breaker bar or long handle ratchet handy for that sensor socket, because in my experience if they've never been changed they are going to be on there tighter than a banjo string

if ts an F150 the Oreilly cat will not be compatible with the vehicle and you will fight the check engine light

As stated, I'd try cleaning o2 sensors first.
If light stays after cleaning sensors, try a couple doses of Cata-Clean. Can be found at most parts houses. Have had mixed results with it, but cheaper than a cat.
Also, have installed plenty a\m converters on Eco-boosts without any issues.

Dump in a can of berry man chentool.
Get on I10. Monitor cat temps. Downshift until you can get temp above 950 degrees behind that cat. Run at high rpms for 15-20 minutes.
Cool it off. Reset code. Stop driving like a pawpaw and idling all the time.

Man, cats typically last 10+ years and the only time I had a bad one, I had significant loss of power.
I would suspect a failed oxygen sensor first.

Warranty on the cat is 8/80 per Ford.

I had "Custom Exhaust & Brake" on Prien Lake Road install an exhaust for me a couple years ago. They were fast, inexpensive, and I haven't had any issues yet.

How many miles on that bad converter?
Posted on 4/10/26 at 12:56 pm to Bow08tie
I air it out heading to hackberry plenty.
O2 sensor code popped up last October but went off before I could charge it.
Muffler shop on Prien lake is who it’s going to.
93,478.3 in the parking lot at tobacco plus waiting on my burger rat now

Buy a Tundra. Never worry about it.

One possible source for converter failure…. That engine with its turbo can cause premature catalytic converter failure by pushing excessive heat or oil from failed turbo seals into the unit, leading to melting or clogging.
This is a possibility for any turbo engine.
