16yrs old is maybe too young to have a pistol on her. Mace or possibly some sort of taser yes.
Agreed.
Her maturity doesn't concern me, but I wouldn't want her carrying anytime soon

A 16 year old cannot conceal carry
No, but she can train with the pistol she'll need when the time comes to start carrying

She can have it in her home though
Would stay in cabinet unless me and the wife are OOH

Fair. Edited for clarity. She will not be carrying until she leaves home, but I want her comfortable by then.
Also, I am a firm believer in the adage that "it's better to be judged by 12 of your peers then carried by six of them."

Agreed. Clarified that I want her to get something she can learn with then take to college

Where sending her to college that she needs to carry? Send her elsewhere.

Grow into?
Get her something she can enjoy shooting now.

Way too many hormone's in a 16 year old girl to be armed regularly. Get her some mace and a serious conversation.

Ruger LCP 380. She can easily keep in her purse.

Glock 42 or 43
Daughter carries a 42, sweet little gun and she likes shooting it.

with raging hormones that she sometime can't control definitely needs a handgun with her
If hormones are the determining factor most of us need to take our wives concealed carry pistol away.

Man, a lot of whining bitches in here eh?
Sig P365 would be great for her to grow into and ultimately carry.

.380 is expensive to shoot, but the Glock 42 is a pretty good gun for not much money.
I would prefer to go with a .9 mm and train her to properly manage the recoil.
As to which gun, you need to put many pistols in her hand and watch for which allows her to pull the trigger without moving the front sight. I see so many people show up at ranges with poorly chosen handguns because someone had excessive brand loyalty but the gun does not fit their hands for a proper grip. They need a good thumbs-high-forward grip and good finger to trigger alignment.

Now budget some training time with a serious instructor. Dry firing with a laser cartridge is very helpful in learning proper trigger control and a lot cheaper than burning ammo. Just read the manual to see if dry firing is harmful to the gun before buying it.

Find a self defense class with a female instructor for your daughter. Your daughter decides which firearm is best for her use.
If you wish to take her to the range and test several firearms, that's great but she decides the one in which she is comfortable.
It is your responsibility to give her options. If she is too young to make this decision, then she is too young to make the decision. Best to find out now and not later.

Such an idiotic comment.

No it's not. I have three at State, and have friends and family with kids at Ole Miss, none of them carry a weapon. I work in the DT Jxn, MS, I don't carry.
