In LA, your car is considered an extension of your home.

Not exactly. In terms of carrying your firearm, a home and a vehicle are treated similarly but as others have stated, there are instances where they aren't, like warrants for a search, expectation of privacy, etc.

The whole "extension of your home" deal started with insurance policies and has been confused to be the same as with a firearm. I'll let Brannon Lebouef explain it (he's Nolatac and has only posted here a few times):

There are exceptions when it comes to parking on private property where the owner posts "no firearms" signs.
I was thinking that Louisiana passed a law a few years back that basically said if the parking lot was unguarded or offered unrestricted entry to the general public you had the right to have your firearm in your vehicle. Anyone know if this is true?

Posting a sign can't directly impact my rights. Maybe it subjects me to (misdemeanor) trespassing charges, but I'll wager if they allow my car in there, my gun can stay in there, in my car.

Can anyone cite the specific statute or law pertaining to this this?

He wants proof. They told him it was the law.

i see it on TV where game wardens on north woods law say long guns must not have a chambered round and any hand gun can have a full clip in it but its illegal for a round to be in the chamber. they seem to have someone ticketed every 2 or 3 shows for that

as others have said, google it and anytime you are on WMA the rules are very different so.....

I keep a gun in my center console. Chambered, safety on.

Mrs. Midnight has a snubbie with 8 .357 Magnum - it's an N-frame, so it can also be used to beat a MFer upside the head if 8, in fact, ISN'T enough.

This made me laugh! I have a N-frame .357 w/ a 4" barrel. I've always joked that I don't have to be a good shot because the noise, muzzle flash and fire blowing out of the cylinder will scare most people to death.

I have no doubt that it would be an extremely effective tool, if used in a pistol whipping application. It probably weighs close to three pounds and I'm sure it could raise a few lumps on even the hardest head.

When is Alabama gong to get rid of their archaic carry laws in vehicles?

Don't you have to have your pistol in the trunk and unloaded or some ridiculous shite like that?

WTF Bama, I thought y'all were a southern state?

This area can get very serious, very quickly. Be aware of the policies of your company, employer or other entity. For example, I know a Physician's Assistant student at LSU Med Center in Shreveport who was doing a rotation at the VAMC in Shreveport. The student had 22LR gun(s) and lots of ammo locked up in the vehicle in the VA parking lot. Security found out about it. Long story short, the student was permanently expelled from PA school. Having a gun in the vehicle was against the policy of the school and the VA as well as the student handbook.

I agree with all of your points - you are incurring significant risk if your employment, schooling, livelihood, etc., prohibit having weapons in your car.

Yea Alabama laws are ridiculous. Gun has to be empty and separated from the ammo unless you have a CC permit
