My dad just bought the same rifle. Now he is just looking for the right scope. Cant wait to try it out.
Scope used when I shot was a 5-20x Vortex Razor. Id say any of the scopes from 3-20x, 5-25x, etc would be fine. Problem with more magnification is more mirage when it gets hot making the higher powers unusable. No sense in paying for stuff you cant use.
Hell, for the competitions I have shot. For like 75% of the comp, the scope never goes above 6-10x. Only time it goes above is if the shooting position is stationary, even then its tough to pick up targets for quick shots. I use 3.5-21x bushnell, ususally lives in the midrange of that magnification.

I think I need to work on the triple digit ranges before I try that

Getting the windage straight would be the challenge

I tried it with my .22 derringer and missed every shot.
Maybe I should have cleaned it first ??

Liking that .338 Lapua more and more.
Better get ready to unload a first born or maybe an important organ for it.

I have a friend that shoots deer long distance in bean fields in the delta.
He tells me most calibers will kill at a 1000 yards. He gets his rifles built and the last one he had built was a 30.06. He killed a doe at 1100 yds. with it.
He says he drives his pick up into the fields he hunts (he owns them or leases them as a farmer), examines the opposite side of the field with his binoculars (very good ones) and then climbs into the back of his truck and shoot off the roof.
I ask him didn't all that noise scare the deer and he said if that noise scares they are too close.
He uses a Swarovski spotting scope and has studied all this windage stuff and has fine scopes on his rifles.
He claims he watched the bullet hit a doe one time as the gun settled back in front of his eye after the recoil.
Nothing like shooting a mile but still real cool IMHO.
