What are the steps to buying/selling a trailer? Do you just remove the license plate and have a bill of sale notarized?

I bought one recently along with the boat and motor. All three were on the bill of sale with a price for each. So if you are buying just a trailer I would think you are good.

FYI, you will pay registration to the state based on the price on the bill of sale.

I was about to message you about this. I'm pretty sure we just need to sign the title and have a bill of sale.

The trailer (if tagged) will have a title for it
So all you need to do is both parties sign the title with the agreed price and have it Notarized
this is essentially the “”bill of sale” in Louisiana
Bring the signed title to DMV, pay registration
for the new tag
Done simple right

I wouldn't let it go with the trailer. When the buyer registers it, DMV will give him a new one.

Yes remove it, like W said they will get their own when they register it
Also a “lifetime” tag is not transferable
Which sucks bigly

for trailers the plate on a trailer gets transferred to new owner so leave it on, unless its a permanent lifetime plate, those must be turned in.

just need bill of sale and title transfer done at notary or title place and you are good to go

and no matter what, its well worth paying to get a permanent plate for it if you expect to keep it for at least 10 years
