Anyone have experience with this. No title for trailer, has title for boat and motor. How much trouble is it going to be to get license plate transferred to me.

Save yourself a headache and buy a new one.

buy it, drive it straight to trailer dealer, buy new trailer they set up for you for free
if you want you can try to sell the trailer it came with even with no title

Speaking as someone who had a trailer with no title (La gave me shite when I tried to register from out of state seller - never trailered it so never bothered) structure your offer so you don’t give any value for the trailer. You can get it registered but it’s a hassle, you may have to go to the courts, and it could take forever. Just assume you will have to buy a new one and if you don’t it will be a nice surprise. Still make him give you a bill of sale for the trailer and state a low value.

You're best bet is to find someone with an old broke down trailer that's unusable BUT they have the title for it. Get the title for that trailer and get that one switched over to your name. There's usually not a serial number stamped on the trailer itself. It's on a decal near the tongue that deteriorates in the weather.
Long story short, there is almost no way for DMV to know what trailer you boat is on. They only know what license plate is on it.

Is it the original owner? When I sold my boat I couldn’t find the title to the trailer. I went to the DMV and got a new fairly easily.

Playing the odds I would say they’re 10:1 on the side of Never encountering an issue w it h that trailer. Most of the farm trailers either have no plate or one that doesn’t match. My plate has been I. The back seat for two years, advise for Louisiana only.
