How many miles is too many on a used jeep ? I’ve been looking for one for just a hunting/spare vehicle but don’t want to have to work on it all the time. They’re all high but not as high as a used Tacoma. Any thoughts? Thanks

If it’s a spare/hunting vehicle, miles won’t matter as much.

I purchased a 1992 in December with 116,000 miles on it. It was very clean and well kept. I paid $8000. Everything I looked at for less was junk.

If looks aren't important, you can pick up a 00-04 xterra for cheap. Crank the torsion bars and it's ready to go.

TJs were the last jeep I had. Think I sold it at 180k miles.

Atarted having typically electrical crap. TPS was the most expensive.

Having said that, it was the most reliable chrysler product I've ever owned.

Given your parameters, I'd focus on looking for a TJ. They're easy to work on that straight 6 engine holds up if you take care of it. I'd get a manual too... much easier to maintain a Jeep's manny transmission than an automatic.

TJ is definitely the way to go for the OP. I have a YJ so i'm partial to the ol square headlights, but the suspension is so much better on a TJ.

and i wouldnt worry about the miles since it's not going to be a daily driver. just learn to work on it yourself best you can, and accept that sooner or later big shite will break and need to be replaced.

Yes, but if you opt for an 2005 or later, you'll get a much more powerful engine. I strongly recommend the offroad models of the 2005+

Mileage is usually reliable but not always...one with 400K on it that has never been ran hot is likely to be less trouble than one with 40K on it that was ran hot for 50 miles. I bought a 2014 F250 in 2014 with less than 10K on it and it was worn slap out....and had, apparently, been submerged partially. Clean title and no unusual warranty activity but that truck was worn slap out before it had 20K on it. Ford eventually bought it back from me because they could not keep crank shafts in it for some unknown reason but it was an adventure...

He's looking at old jeeps. Who said HP was important?

The issue with the 05-11s is the strawberry milkshake transmission.

idk, anyone using it for farm work?

i have an 05 with 200k miles on it, and i am still i love with it. i'd choose it over a used jeep any day for reliable farm work but that's just me.

Not that old, but I had an ‘07 that I sold a few years back with about 140k miles on it at the time. It ran like a top with almost all highway miles on it. Was a rubicon with standard transmission. The power in 1st gear was crazy. My only regret besides selling it was not running it through its paces in the mud

I got 482,000 out of a 4.0 in-line 6 cylinder (always maintained it regularly myself). I’ve known other people who got 350k+. If it has that engine, I’d highly recommend it if it’s under 200k. Will last a long while if it was taken care of.
