I had a 2015 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 engine. Sold it less than a year later and went back to diesel. The truck itself was lovely, but the mileage was an abomination. Plan on driving from gas station to gas station, especially if you're towing.
Gas for half ton trucks
Diesel for anything heavier than a half ton.

You can replace the engine in a gas truck for what a bad slug of fuel will cost you with a new diesel. You can buy a wholeeeee lot of gas with the $9k option price of the diesel. Even with the shite fuel mileage, unless you tow heavy constantly, you will come out ahead with the gas burner every time.

I wasn't going to chime in because he said diesel only , but figured since we're talking fuel mileage on 3/4 tons id shed some light on the OB forbidden Ram 2500. Not all gas 3/4 tons make terrible mileage, I have the 6.4 hemi and consistently average 14.5-15.5 with mixed driving. Which isnt much less than my leveled half ton was getting
I couldnt afford the diesel premium and maintenance to go with it but dont regret my purchase at all. This engine is stout and pulls my 9k camper, tractor, jeep and anything else I want to hook up to it with ease. It has a tow capacity of over 12k and dont doubt it could handle more.

I don't regret my 6.0 gas at all. It's got the power that diesels had 15 years ago.

While the fuel thing is true, maintace can be higher, and it is somewhat true you have to drive a lot to save the $9k in fuel. Go to KBB and get a value for a used 2500 gasser. Then click the diesel option. It will add almost exactly the same as t is to add the option new. Essentially the diesel option depreciates much slower than the rest of the vehicle is depreciating. So you don't have to save $9k to pay for it. When you sell it you realize you saved the price on about the 15 tank.

Well all you're really saying there is that our trucks depreciate equally and I paid less to maintain mine over that time span.... Anyway, not derailing the thread or nit picking fights was just reiterating whats said on here all the time; 80% of people if not more don't absolutely need a diesel, all the big 3 have outstandingly capable and reliable gassers

A diesel saves on fuel cost due to better economy.
Typically has less issues over the long run
Maintenance is not that much more on a diesel due to the previous statement.
AND the diesel option of $9k does not depreciate / depreciates very very little. You will get almost the entire $9k back in added value upon selling the vehicle. Therefore it is not as true about not ever saving enough to pay for the diesel. If you can afford it / don't mind spending it up front, it is not a "bad investment".

LOL, same exact shite I told myself when rationalizing the 6.0 purchase. But in addition to shitty mileage, the lack of power and torque was just too much for me, personally.
When I hit the accelerator to merger onto i10, I want something to happen. Same when I'm towing.
Look, I don't give a hoot what anyone else does, I'm just telling you how I felt after going from a diesel back to a gasser. To each his own, but I'll never have anything other than a diesel as long as I have to haul hay, horses, and tractors. The added expense is worth it to me to have what the diesel offers. If you want a gasser good on you. Get after it.

You can find a nice mid-late 90s F250 with under 200K for around $8-10K.
Those models of powerstrokes will get 400K miles with no sweat and pull anything you want to hook them to.
