QDMA studies show that a bucks home range is typically 350 acres on average, or less. Now put 55,000 acres in perspective. Those deer don't even dream about covering that much land..

What about the deer who's home range included an area now occupied by a 10ft metal fence?

Well they just won a life membership to the all you can eat protein buffet

Seriously though once you get over 5k acres the fence is more to keep trespassers out than keeping deer on the property. I don't consider 5k+ acres of high fence canned hunting as there will be plenty of animals you never see on property that large.

Then that tells me all I need to know. If someone came to me and said " Hey, lets do a hunting show but you have to play a dumbass" id have to respectfully decline. Especially if I already had the world by the balls and could hunt, fish, and goof off all day anyway.

A lot of hate they get stems from the under the table deal they did to get the land.

Was coming to make a joke about the cameras, but balls took the cake.

About the family, I really have no opinion, dad worked his arse off, made his money, kids hit the sperm lotto. I see no problems. The problem I have is, you have that much money and you buy 55,000 acres of fricking pine trees.

I hunted a 1000+ acre high fenced ranch in Texas and I can tell you that you can drive all over and not see a fence... sometimes not even see a deer. 55,000 high fenced should not even be in that discussion.
Most high fenced haters don't even know what they are hating on.

This I thought the same when my step dad joined a lease up there but late found out that there's big arse deer there. I still don't quite understand how those big boys come out of what seems to be mostly piney woods.

Well obviously. You're not driving the length of the fence.

I've been on 2 seperate high fence "ranches" and have seen does standing in the sendero next to the fence on several occasions

I don't understand how this is even possible east of the mississippi. Is there not a single public road that runs though an area as large a 55k acres? Seems to me there would be several.

Not sure what this has to do with the fence? They generally graze in the area adjacent to the fence because most ranches keep a good distance from the fence cut (i.e. fresh growth for browsing).

And I think the key here is, you've been on a high fence ranch.... not, you've been a part of a high fence ranch lease....

They cannot leave the high fenced area. People act like if a piece of land is a certain size (for instance 1-2,000 acres) that deer never encounter the fence. The reality is many of them do.

I have family who own a high fenced operation. Been there several times. Never got the urge to shoot anything off it except for doing some dove hunts.

Exactly what I said...

They weren't there to attempt to "leave" the high fenced area in the first place! Boy, if they just has some wire cutters... You saw them there, more than likely, feeding... like I said.

I love to see posters disagree and they automatically pull the 'jealous' or 'hater' card out.

Most, and I say most on the OB would say hey, if you want to fence hunt, knock yourself out brother.

But when you take an 8 pt monster, don't get on TD and start a thread titled...'Ooops, I did it again'. It's weak sauce. Like throwing down a dunk on a 6 ft goal against special Olympic 8 yr olds.

So stop with jealous and hater BS
