Had an ER patient years ago come in by ambulance who had been stung around 100 times.

He was in his late 60s, was mowing, and stirred them up. He said he couldn’t outrun them so he just laid down and covered his face until they stopped stinging.

He didn’t have any noticeable swelling or redness anywhere. I don’t even think he received any medication prior to arrival.

The paramedic had started pulling stingers out during the transport. There was a pile of them on the stretcher.

Most I've ever been stung was 5 times by hornets when I leaned my mountain bike on a sapling that had a nest 5ft above me. I can't imagine getting hit 10 or 20 much less 30++

I worked in a nursery when I was in high school. We were collecting dead plants and I grabbed the stalk of a dead plant in a 5-gallon can and yanked it out. Then I realized that there was a nest of bald-faced hornets in the bottom of the can. I ran over 1/4 mile before those ****ers stopped hitting me. I got stung over 30 times. Had to go home cause it made me sick. Hate those things.

Bumblebees don’t lose their stingers. They keep stinging or biting.

I’ve been stung by bumblebees before and never had a problem but was never stung by this many, maybe 2-3.

Same thing happened to one of my uncles who was a beekeeper.

He never had any issues but it was always a sting or 2 occasionally. Then 1 time, he was removing a swarm that had set up in the vinyl siding of someone's house and got lit up like a Christmas tree. He guessed somewhere around 20-30 stings and he had a decent reaction.

Every time after that, he got progressively worse reactions to getting stung. The last time, I was with him and it was just 1 sting that got through his veil and popped him on the chin. He swelled up so bad we were pretty close to bringing him to the ER. He decided after that day that he had to give up beekeeping.

Going forward, might want to take a pre-emptive Benadryl before hopping on that tractor again. If the nest is still there, they will likely remember the noise of the tractor and could get defensive quicker. It wouldn't hurt to keep a bee veil with you so they at least can't get you around the face since that is there target area.

I am certain their stingers have high voltage electricity in them.

They get your attention.

Dr thought i was allergic to squid and prescribed me an epi pen. He told me to keep baby Benadryl. If I needed it to take 5 or 6 of the chewables as they got into your system faster.

Yowch.

Everyone worries about snakes. Not me.

Bumblebees are the threat. They will shake the ground where you are standing when they get riled. Slow to come up out of that hole, but relentless once they do. I bought a tractor with a cab after my last bout with those sobees. Occasionally they will nest in above ground things like old disk harrows or grain wagons. Walk 10 feet away and throw a shadow over the hole and here they come.
