If you had a 20-30 yard shot on a deer that was feeding and you're using 12ga 00 buckshot, where are you aiming? I've never used buckshot but seems like the best option for where I'm hunting. The deer will be feeding in a shooting lane and will be no more than 30 yards. Behind the shoulder, neck or head?

I don't use it anymore, but when I did, shoulder. Lots of deer have been killed by buckshot but that was back in my meat hunting days.

Yes. Between my shed and my property line. Anything past 30 yards is out of my property and I'm not one to shoot onto someone else's property.

I’m just being an arse. Aim for the shoulder.

Btw, pattern your shotgun for the best buckshot/choke pattern.

Shot a doe at 30 yards with 3.5" 00 a few days ago right behind the shoulder. Dropped in her tracks. Only lost 1/2 of one shoulder and nicked one back strap. Buck shot is awesome for close situations.

I shot a buckshot a few years ago to check the pattern with a modified choke in my benelli and it was a tight pattern. Looked real deadly on paper, I just never use it because my rifles are much better for deer. I don't think my neighbors would appreciate that 6.5 going off in the yard, but I know people around me shoot shotguns sometimes so I don't think it will be a problem. Not in city limits for anybody thinking it's illegal.

killed two deer using OO in a 20 guage single shot. My first gun. Shotguns are deadlier than people think these days

Break the shoulder.

Side note imo with the right load and proper distance I think a 12 ga could kill any animal on the planet

Low and in front is what the old men always say. They’ve killed piles of deer with buckshot.

Aim low is definitely the trick. I used to be told to put the deer on top the barrel at the front leg and shoot.

For those who don’t know, federal flite control buckshot is fricking incredible. It’s amazing. Cylinder choke, at 45 yards it puts damn near the whole load in about a 12” circle.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna go sit back there in the morning and see if anything comes out. I'm still debating using a shotgun because it's almost too easy and I have a bow. Which is still a chip shot but I kind of feel like it's more "fair" I guess.
