Why would mono not be better for a soft mouth?

I also like being able to bite through mono.

Not being able to bite through it is the only downside that I've found. And as far as hook sets/soft mouths are concerned, the rod is much more important IMO. I generally throw plastics and I prefer a 7ft m/l rod with a fast tip, that way it gives a good bit when they hit it, basically setting the hook for you. If you've ever thrown an Allstar shrimptail special or something similar you'll know what I'm talking about

you put too much pressure on them, at least I do causing more pull offs.

Sounds like you need to learn how to set a hook.

I have it on my baitcaster I use for saltwater. I like the 50lb power pro on my frog/punching bass rig. Can't stand the 30 lb on my saltwater rig. I have sliced my finger on it more than once.

I use it mostly because I can feel a little better with it and it's tougher than mono. Of course half the time I put a 20lb mono leader on it so that defeats the purpose of it there. Not sure why I do it. Some of you frickers on here made it sound like a good idea.

Should I put a little bit of mono on my reel instead of spooling the entire thing with braid?

I've used braid once about 3 years ago. Hated it.

Just spooled her up with a probably 30 or 40 yds of mono for the backing and the rest with 30lb power pro.

I can feel everything a lot better with braided, but I quit using it because if I put my reels up for a month or so, the line would get matted and stick together after using in salt water even after thoroughly rinsing. Could noticeably tell a difference from when they were first spooled up.

Don't know if anybody mentioned it or not but there is a power pro super slick braid at cabelas. Expensive but is a lot smoother than the original stuff. I rigged all my reels with it. Casts further and really is smooth.
