I have two bows I need restrung. Curious if I brought them in the morning if they’d be done that evening or if it’s like a 3 week wait type thing right now. Anyone have knowledge?

Do you know how many people are pulling their bows out right now after not messing with them and bringing them to Bowie’s?

You can call Gotham Archery in Central. Not sure if they are backed up.

As LSUDAN said, take your bow to Gotham Archery in Central. They will take good care of you.

Call Ken at Gotham. He just turned around a restring for me in two days, but it will depend on whether or not he has to order your strings. My last restring at Bowie’s took > 1 month and that was in the off season.

Gotham got me restrung and a new cam from Mathews in less than a week, but when I picked up there were twice as many bows as when I dropped off. Season opens in two weeks, I’d be skeptical of anyone saying they can do it same day right now.

For the record, I just found out today my teen sons eye sight is twisted and he has been shooting the target that way and his loop for this trigger is frayed and about to break. Guess I should have been on top of his equipment more. Guess I check local for someone to get him taken care of

Those are pretty quick fixes, you should be able to find someone. Having to order strings is what will set the timeframe back.

When I lived in BR, I had three extremely bad experiences with Bowie's bow shop. That was years ago, but I always brought my bow to Spillway Sportsman after that, and they did great work.

I don't want to get too far into it, but the straw that broke the camel's back involved my bow being lost/misplaced/forgotten about for 4+ months after bringing it in for string replacement during the offseason (like, March offseason). When I finally got it back, one of the limbs was cracked.

I was so exhausted with them at that point that I just cut my losses and went elsewhere. I was also certain there would've been a problem if I would've confronted them about the cracked limb.

I know that things change and I'm definitely not trying to bad-mouth their business anymore than to say I wouldn't bring my bow there because of that. This was several years ago and the other two experiences were more just PITA than actual major problems, particularly compared to the above. I know you (used to?) work there and I also have some friends that used to work there. I've spent (and still spend) a ton of money there otherwise...just not with a bow tech.

I can't speak for Bluemoons but I had a bad experience with them several years ago. Below is the review I left on google.

I like almost everything about the store but the archery manager Bruce has a terrible temper. I brought in my bow to get a new string and new limbs after my girlfriend dry-fired it. I was promised the bow within two-three weeks but every time I called after the two-three week time period the archery shop didn't have my bow ready and blamed it on Bear Archery for not sending in the limbs. I got a friend who works for a Bear Archery dealer to call and inquire about the limbs and they actually sent them to Bowie Outfitters the next business day after I dropped my bow off. I went to Bowies and told them that and they said they never received them but incredibly that evening a delivery truck came with the limbs on it yeah right they were at their store the entire time but didn't care because they were too busy selling new bows instead of taking care of old customers. So that entire series of events took almost two months when I was promised my bow in 2-3 weeks. I was ready to just chalk it up to them being busy when I spoke with Bruce and told him the story and he blew up on me in front of an entire store full of people he later apologized but the damage had been done. Later when I received my bow they forgot to put in rocker guards so the limbs cracked when I first pulled the bow back I immediately went to Cabelas and they fixed everything free of charge under manufacturer's warranty. The rest of the Bowie Outfitter staff was always nice but Bruce is a terrible manager.

Not sure if it was the same guy when I had my problems, but I had the same experience. Every time I would call to check on my bow you’d have thought I was asking the guy to sit for a root canal. Keep in mind we’re talking months here. Over the back half of that time period, I called them once a week. Initially, I didn’t even reach out for like 4 weeks, even though they told me it would be done in a week.

The last time I called, the manager got really pissed at me on the phone and basically told me that I didn’t understand how archery shops worked and I needed to lower my expectations. A couple days later, I called and told them I wanted my bow back that day, new strings or not. I told them that if they couldn’t find it I expected a new one.

One of my very good friends owned and operated an archery shop in my hometown for years (far from Baton Rouge), and was a Mathews certified dealer/tech. I’m quite familiar with the less-than-timely nature of bow techs, which is why I waited over a month to reach out to Bowie the first time. It just left a really bad taste in my mouth with their archery shop.

Two years ago when I needed my Hoyt tuned I gave them another chance because that archery manager was gone and I was pleased but I was told he may have come back. As long as he's there the archery shop won't get my business.

Tim is the archery manager now, Bruce has been gone for years.
