As an added bonus, you don't have to deal with them being so pissed off and onry after they're iced down.

crack the shells with the paddle and let them sink back down

Get the water to a rolling boil put the crabs in and boil for?
I put the crabs in first with cool water and then heat up so they don't throw their claws.

If they're on ice first, it won't matter

Here's another question, how about getting the sand out of them? These came from the surf in Grand Isle, some are ok, some I could build sand castles with what came out of them. Any tips?

How many dozen can you do boil in a 80 qt pot? A 100?
How much seasoning do you usually use?

Have you tried brining them for a couple hours like some people do for crawfish?
I'd like to know the answer to this question myself.

we would always soak them in fresh water and keep changing it out. but now, I just go catch freshwater crabs. so much better...

I'd put them in a bucket, rinse with freshwater, let sit for about 10 minutes, then move them to another bucket, rinse, repeat. Did this 5 or 6 times. I'll be back in Grand Isle next weekend, I'll try soaking them for a few hours in a saltwater mix and see if that helps.

Never boiled crabs but would like to try. How different is it than crawfish. Boiling/soak time looks similar but I see yall mentioning smaller pots?

Drop them in seasoned water before lighting and allow them to suck up some juice.Bring water to roll and boil for 12 to 15 min.Soak for 20 to 25.

Ice them down hard so they are docile..... Then take them out 1 by 1 and rinse them with the hose. That's about all you can do.

people here are probably gonna call me a weirdo but...
i pull the backs, genitals and mandibles(?) and blast 'em with the hose, then i throw 'em back on ice. boil water and seasoning and drop 'em in. 5 minutes after rolling boil, kill fire and let soak 10 minutes. pull 'em out fill the middles with squeezable butter and throw in a chest for another 20 minutes to let them finish cooking. serve.
