With so many options out there...What is the OB’s recommendation for boat electronics, right around 800-1000 Mark? GPS and maps are primary use, side scan is another of the considerations. I know there’s got to be a great deal out there...what say you OB?

Going to come down to personal preference and area. I am keeping one of my Lowrance units in an otherwise Garmin set up because Garmin's maps in my area suck. It will handle mapping/waypoints and 2D sonar.

Birds are the best side imaging, but have not seen how they work with Navionics. They have no Lakemaster coverage here. I am not comfortable navigating their options. Obviously, many people have no issue as they are very popular.

I place Lowrance ease of use WAY about the other two with Garmin second.

The Garmin 93SV has been on sale numerous places. Lots of great shape used units on the BBC boards.

Lowrance Elite FS 7 will do anything you want and more at that price point. Can use map cards as well

Agree, while I have the Elite TI, it has done everything I have needed. Only paid right at $500 when I bought mine (only downscan) but the map card (and being able to make my own satellite maps for it) is mostly what I use it for anyway. Would recommend.

Simrad Go 7. Basically same as Lowrance, but I liked the full touchscreen more than the buttons on the Lowrance.

When it comes to gps mapping Id go with Garmin. There is a reason they put them on planes

The absolute worst choice for CENLA lakes.

Fishing salt or fresh? I have a humminbird helix on my boat (package deal) and the Louisiana delta card. While it gets the job done, I wish my boat would have had a simrad or lowrance on it for better mapping card capabilities.

If mapping is your main concern then Lowrance HDS Models. Access to more cards with satellite imagery.

Hummingbird has a little better DS and SS imaging in my opinion but Lowrance set up correctly is close on the HDS Lives.

To be honest a fair amount of people don't know what they are exactly looking at or use their unit to its full potential.

If you choose Lowrance stay away from the hook models.

I'm a Simrad fan boy. For that budget, go9 xse w/ Sidescan.

I like navionics. Not the best for finding fishing spots but it is the best for navigation IMO, and that's mainly what I need it for. If its navigable on the map I can run it.

Forward facing sonar is worst thing to happen to the sport in 100 years. Those of us who.ve spent 1000's of hours on the water learning to read the conditions and get in tuned with what mother nature will giveth for that hour or that day is now completely irrelevant. For those who fish competitively its a must have to even have a chance. I thought this would be more of a deep clear water technology but was proven wrong in many spring events this year. It may mark the end of my competitive days as I refuse to turn my days on the water in to a video game eliminating the skills and gut instincts that have separated the have from the have nots for decades,
