I have a 18x54 flat bottom gator trax with a 45hp mud buddy. Boat is great for hunting and is set up for fishing. Trolling motor, live well, etc. the problem I am having is the back end of the boat just drifting in circles with the slightest bit of wind even with the motor in the water. I am fishing deep water so I can't use a power pole. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Maybe a Drift Anchor sock.

Anchoring isn't a problem. Is when I am just trolling down a tree line the back end just walks off on me. The drift socks would work if I was in open water but I think they would hang on every thing. Any body ever built a rudder on the back ?

your engine should take care of that. The problem is that your boat is too light and not enough drag. You need some "V" to keep you from tail spinning.

You need a fat friend to sit in the back while you fish

We used to have that problem fishing out of my cousin's gator traxx. You have to learn to fish ponds with the wind. In a light boat like that I always found in easier to head into the wind whenever possible. Keeping the motor in the water helps, but not all that much. Otherwise, I don't know what you could do.

Maybe some kind of drift sock would help, but that seems like it would kill the trolling motor fast.

I can see it now, 300# man makes his 80# son fish the motor.

Troll into the wind and not with the wind if you can help it. Leave the motor as much in the water as you can. Put big tits in the back

I was thinking more like this, the drift sock I uses has a float to keep it close to the top of the water. Also tie the drift sock to back corner so when you move ahead it pulls the back of the boat out.

A wind sock looks like using it is a pain in the arse.

Not really, just make sure you pull it back in BEFORE you take off.

I've never used one but I've always thought the same thing.

yes, tell her to take her braw zeer off and tie it off to the down wind side of yer boat. pitch a worm to the upwind side.

I drag a 3'pc of heavy chain.

Braid a 3 strand rope onto one end. dont tie the rope or it will hang oj everything.

It might get hung once every third or fourth trip and theplaces i fish are very hangy
