CSB...

back in the mid eighties when i was in college my roommate and i borrowed his uncle's boat and went on a little moonlight cruise with a couple of mount carmel charmers...neither one of us bothered to anchor the boat when it got time to visit with our guests and the boat drifted up close to a camp at little woods and grounded at low tide. we were all passed out by then and wake up to an audience at the camp laughing at us.

we wade over to the pier and ole boy's got a full-on soft shell crab operation going on, with holding tanks and recirculating water. we hang out with him for a while (charmers are still in the boat, getting pissed) while he shows us his system, and then he goes and gets his bateau and cuts us a channel with the outboard so we could float the boat out

Man I miss those. A family friend had one right off Crowder. My dad had been going there as a kid since the 50s then started bringing me when I was about 8 until late high school. We would run crab traps a few times and boil all evening. We carried a few 5gal gas cans in the boat for the seadoo as it was running nonstop. The ride home on the glassed-out lake with the sun setting was awesome.

After the ‘98 hurricane, there were only 8 left if I remember correctly and of course Katrina killed the rest. I believe the access was controlled by the railroad which prevented total rebuilds.

Yep, many days out there at the family camp. Used to shoot many ducks out there chasing them with a 10' flat bottom with a 3hp motor. Pellet gun in hand. Camp was about 1/4 mile from Lincoln Beach.

back in the Summer of 1984 I was 16 and dated a girl from Meraux whose family owned a camp in Little Woods. Lots of great memories

Good post.

My dad took me fishing on the lake, other side of the levee around the end of Crowder of something in the late 80's. I was pretty young but remember vividly. There were a few defunct shrimp boats docked/abandon. He pulled the old LDWF trawl tag off for me. It was the coolest thing then and still is now. It's purple and gold and from 1984 I think. Need to find it. Thanks for posting this.

Will do. It's basically a license plate. They would nail them to the wooden gunnel or stern. I'll dig it up this weekend. I grew up in New Orleans east. I remember the camps/houses on the other side of the levee.
