I've seen several pontoon boats at the barrier islands.

Granted, one split and flipped near Cat Island on July 3. However, if the water and wind aren't too bad, then you're good.

I saw some dudes fishing a nearshore reef on a pontoon boat yesterday.

I've had rough rides back on big boats. It's all dependent on the weather and wind, really.

Do it on a slick calm day and you will be fine. GTFO immediately if it starts to pick up.
