Sawtooth Oaks grow much more rapidly than most other oaks. The produce acorns at literally about 5-7 years. The only thing I don't like about them is their leaves die in the winter, but don't fall off until spring when new leaves sprout.

That is because they are native to Japan. I have planted these and love them as do the deer. The acorns come in shells.

Dawn Redwood looks interesting.

It was thought to be extinct until they found a small stand of them in China. It is a relative of the bald cypress.

Are these easy to find? Used to have some across the street from me, and people would show up every year to pick the acorns to sell.

Make sure you plant native species that are storm resistant.

They are fairly common in the nursery trade.

River Birches grow pretty fast.

They do grow fast, however, do not plant them near your house.

They pull a lot of mositure out of the ground to sustain that growth rate and can cause foundation issues.

mine has more of a "slowly but surely" mentality

To answer your question chickman, cottonwood is the fastest growing tree out of anything I have seen, but where your new house is wont support them

They don't really grow that well in clay. It's gonna be slow going for them

Plant a couple of pecan trees. The ones I planted 6 years ago are over 20 feet tall now. After the 3rd year they started growing over 3 feet/year.

the pines really took off, a lot of them are probably 8 ft tall already

they're tall enough now that we dont really have to spray anymore, still taking the tractor and cutting between the rows though
