I'm new the Big Green Egg, and I've liked it so far. However, I'm having problem with it molding up after use. I've searched some BGE Forums and found its somewhat common, but my buddy who uses his all the time never has this issue. He lives in Conroe, TX vs me in SWLA though.

Anyone else have this problem?

how often do you use it? if your friend uses it all the time then it might just not have enough time to build up.

Mine gets mold in it if I don't use it often, but I just burn it off when i start it up.

My ceramic does this occasionally but only after I've smoked something at a lower temp and there's meat drippings inside, never seems to happen when I'm cooking at higher temps. So now what I do after I finish smoking something is open up all the vents and let it get hot to burn any residue off. Most of the time since it's been a relatively long smoke I just let it burn off the remainder of the charcoal. Any time I do this I never have a mold issue. Hope that helps.

its the humidity here. after you are done leave the vent at the bottom cracked. this will allow enough air flow. I had the same issue until a my FIL told me to do this.

This. Yeah I get mold if I smoke something and there's a bunch of drippings or leave the drip pan in on accident. As said you can vent it better or just let it all burn off.

I had a Primo and it did this, too. I found that if I left the bottom vent open, and top wide ope, it drastically reduced the mold. And as others have said, burn it off, brush it down and you should be good to go.

thanks for all the replies. Yeah I usually just burn it off, but I'd love to figure out how to keep it out of it all together. I'll start w leaving the vents open.

If you're in Southern LA, you'll get a few roaches! A screen or mesh helps with that, trust me.
