When did this happen? I love the redhawk, but do not feel the need to own one.

I'm not sure. Supposedly they have enough on the shelf to focus on making black guns for a little while.

I'm patiently waiting for somebody to say they own a Freedom Arms revolver so I can make friends

Got a Smith & Wesson 455 Eley at the house. Will try to remember to post a few pictures of it next time I go home.

Hate to hear that. Hopefully it's just a matter of reallocating resources from production of the RH to "black guns." I'll always have a special spot in my heart for the RH. The first handgun I ever bought on my own was a RH w/ a 7 1/2" barrel. Bought it for $315 (actually priced for $350, but had a 10% off sale in place) at the Montgomery Ward store in a Shreveport mall (yes, that was a LONG time ago!). Put a lot of rounds through it during my early days of handgun shooting. Strangely enough, I've never killed a deer w/ it.

That's one of the reasons I went with the redhawk. They are getting harder to find. Tons of srh's, just not into the way they look.

Plan on trying to take a few deer with it this season if I can find a good round. Any suggestions?

Hand loads are the way to go.
I have one too and took many deer with mine. Also have a Blackhawk .44 with a scope. Good out to 100 yards for a deer. I will try to get the data for my hand loads. I will have to dig it up. all that is in my work shop.

That is a super cool gun. Looks Stainless not blued!

My dad's brother left it to me last year. He was a machinist in NOLA for 40+ years and not real up on gun values. So when the old girl looked a little rusty, he just polished her up on the buffer. Pretty effective at getting most of the bluing off. He also re-machined a sear for it.

It's a model 1878 "Frontier". The serial number puts its manufacture date sometime in 1894. A little to early for stainless.

I've been meaning to bring it in to a smith to get it checked out and see if there's any sense in re-bluing it. It's mechanically sound, and the bore looks great.
