Just bought a 3 acre piece of property to build on. 218 feet x 600 feet. The corner boundaries are marked with the metal marker in the ground along with a pvc pipe that is roughly 5-6 feet high. I need to better mark my property lines so that I can start working on my fence. What is the best way to go about this with hiring a surveying crew to come shoot the lines and put markers along the entire boundary?

TIA

If you want it to be accurate, this is the way to go, especially if its wooded.

Not wooded. COmpletely open field.

Is there no tool or way to shoot a straight line from one pole to the other without having to get a crew out there. I am willing to do the work myself if I can.

Purple Paint?

Besides the color how does that help me shoot straight lines between to corners?

Borrow or rent a level/transit and shoot a line from corner to corner. Mark the line with posts/pipes every 50-100 feet. You'll need a helper to place/drive the posts plumb as you sight them in place.

Honestly, this is the only way to go. I've done this a shite ton. Pulling string or wire won't work well.

Is it a perfect rectangle when looking in on a map? If it’s clear between corners stringline is the way to go.
Drive a stake near your corner markers and run a line between the stakes.

If your corners are marked, you can run a string to each corner for your straight line.

You'll never run a stringline 600' and keep it straight.

1. Clear the vegetation between corners.
2. String out a strand of wire from one corner monument to the next. The wire must be high enough above the remaining vegetation and any surface irregularities to avoid interference.
3. Tension the wire until it is fiddle string tight and it will show a perfectly straight line between the two points.
4.Now you can use your marking paint or set intermediate stakes if so desired.

Big difference between a level and a transit.

There is, and I have both. I've been a contractor for 50 years and have used both to do this very thing hundreds of times my friend.

If it’s clear between corners the line should be almost perfectly straight, if there’s no vegetation. Now it won’t be level but there’s no reason it shouldn’t be straight.

Good luck pulling that line tight enough at over 600' to get it off of short grass.

Not to mention, if theres any wind that line willl sway all over the place.
