My brother lost his guns to a fire recently. A lot of them were irreplaceable but he’s already bought a couple rifles and shotguns for the upcoming season.

I’d like to surprise him with a .35 Whelen for his birthday to use during muzzleloader because he hasn’t bought another yet.

I live in the Denham Springs area. Any suggestions where I can find a pretty cheap one? Like possibly stay under $300. I already got a scope Im going to put on it. I know there’s Bass Pro, Cabelas, Academy, etc, but I know a lot of you fellas come across great deals and sales most people aren’t aware of.

H&R on Buds

I’ve never personally used Buds, but I know some guys on here do. I have this gun and have had zero issues other than it kicks like a mule.

Call Bayou Pawn in Zachary. They usually have the best prices on new guns. They will have to order but will have it in about three days. My last eight guns have come from them.

Thanks for all the replies.

Buds has great prices. I can’t remember but I want to say I paid a little over $400 for mine several years back.

Will check out Bayou Pawn in Zachary as well

Look into the CVA Scout. They are around the $325 mark. Mine has been a very accurate rifle with the Hornady 200gr SP superformance rounds. Check Puglias in Metairie.

I own both the H&R and the CVA scout V2. The H&R has a cult following because it’s easy to tinker with but the CVA is by far the better rifle for not much more money. Little loctite on the scope mounts and it drives tacks at 100 yards. Got my dad one last Christmas and Buds was cheapest, even with FFL transfer, exact model I wanted, and it arrived in less than a week. No brainer. Local selection sucks, no one keeps many around because of the change in regs allowing weapon of choice.

I just got one from Cheaper than Dirt. It was the CVA scout 2 and was the best price I could find.

I've been trying to talk Henry into chambering a .35 Wheelen but they haven't bit yet.

Get the CVA Scout, good rifle, barrel is made at same factory in Spain as Bergara, real tack driver. Should run you under $350; scope package is around $450 but dont know what kind of scope or quality. unfortunately, thats a real popular item this time of year and may be hard to find now. Bowies in BR had 10 or so a month ago for sale.

I second this. They have stores in Walker, Hammond, and Mandeville if one of them is closer to you.
