Sako A7 if you are saying without optics. Tikka T3 if you are saying 1200 with optics.
Listen to the chat man.
Honestly, you could get a t3 Hunter with wood stock with a Leopold vx3 or meostar and have a setup that would be hard to beat at any price point.

anyone own the CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62 x 39?
I've had my eye on one and it's tempting but I'd like to hear thoughts from an owner.
They kick arse. Great trigger (forward set is sub 1lb), great action, great sights, and 90% of the ones we had came with fantastic wood. The ultimate Louisiana brush gun

Ha! I have a '67 Rem model 600 in .243
Got my first deer w/ it years ago, and still have it. Vented barrel - beautiful rifle. Don't want to piss off the board here w/ the .243 talk, and I agree as I was just "fondling" a Sako in .300 this weekend, but I'll keep my old .243 around as well.

Roughtech Pro is the the model A7 I would go with.

I'm sighting mine in tomorrow. I started to a few weeks ago, and had to stop. But, the 6 rounds I shot were fun.
That trigger is awesome.

Winchester Model 70 in .30-06
You may even get lucky and find a pre64 in good shape for around $1,000
If you haven't looked at one of these you should. Awesome rifle! I would recommend the Featherweight model. The newer rifles have the same bolt as the pre-64 rifles. You can get one new for about $800. I have one in .30-06 and it shoots like a dream. Holds 5 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Three position safety is a huge plus for me. Weighs in under 7 lbs, so easy carry. Only knock is that it's high gloss blued finish and wood stock, so if your looking for something to bang around behind the seat of your truck, you may not want something this pretty. I don't bang mine around, but it's not a gun case queen either. I hunt the gun and the older it gets, the better it looks to me. I just love a wood stock with a sweat and body oil finish.

Growing up I always thought weatherbys were some of the best rifles you could get. This board doesn't give them much love. Are they not really good rifles? Overpriced?

The Weatherby Mark V is a helluva gun but will probably exceed the OPs price limits.

Get a Remington in 243 just to piss off the OB
Better to piss them off with a Ruger in 6mm

That's not a knock. That's a plus.

I have the 742 Woodsblaster in 30-06 it's very close to the pump.
They have a bad reputation because the bolt rails will eventually wear out on them, so I don't shoot it much. It's actually pretty accurate though.
