I daily a 2nd gen 3/4 ton Dodge. I have always had a 12 valve or a 2nd gen no matter what else I currently owned.
Having had several modern 2016-2020 3/4 ton diesels if I am towing it's the F250 with the 10 speed hands down. We have towed both Jeeps and a GN all across the US with it and it's awesome. For daily driving I'd say the Chevy. I have never liked the transmission shift strategy of the newer Chevys when towing, but if you use it like a majority of guys it's a nice daily.

The tappet engines, no doubt most reliable. The new ones, we'll find out.
It's been almost 5 years since they switched to roller hydraulic lifters.
That's enough time if any issue was going to show itself.
Roller lifters reduce camshaft wear( both the ford and chevy have solid roller lifter)and hydraulic lifters eliminate the need to adjust valve clearance.

The best diesel truck is your favorite truck(preferably a Dodge for a larger engine compartment) with a 12 or 24 valve Cummins swap. There’s no competition!

It's not like it's some complicated new tech or anything. It's just unproven relative to the old one and is no longer a real commercial medium duty engine in that it isn't used in that application anywhere.

I have the 6.7 diesel in my Ford XLT F350 and love the power it has. Pull a 24 ft stock trailer and also a 7 bale round bale carrier. The truck pulls them loaded without you really feeling anything behind you.

I have a 21 ram 3500 that tows a lot. 65000 miles and no problems so far. Pulls better than my previous 18 F350 but there is a huge drop in ride quality but i didn’t buy it for the smooth ride.

Good reason to be hesitant. They are junk, and got bailed out by Obama. Come to think of it, Ram is the same as GM but I’d drive a first gen 6.7 Cummins.
Ford and Toyota are the only good trucks currently and I don’t think Toyota has a diesel.
