Curious which year models to avoid and which year models to look for. (*I had a 2015 that had “transmissues”)

Also curious about 5.3 vs other engines.

Thing that I cannot stray from:
-must be 4wheel Dr.

However, don’t mind buying new model if current 2023 has as good of a track record as a new model can have.

Current generation of Tahoe's have the known valve lifter issues. If you find a deal on a 2021 Tahoe, stay away from those with a build date after Sept 2020. That appears to be the line in the sand for that years' lifter issues. Subsequent models 2022-23 have lifter issues as well but arent tied to a specific build run.

Maybe don't buy another Tahoe?

There are no other SUVs that would fit the criteria?

ARMADA and the 5.6 is a strong engine. The 7 speed has been durable.

Perhaps a halfton with a camper shell? I like that package. U less you need a 3rd row

Got four kids under 15. Gonna need that third row, baw.

Can the armada off-road like the taho; though.

I’ve owned multiples of every iteration of GM’s full size 4-door SUV since 1995, and in my opinion the 1996 is the cream of the crop. 5.7L Vortec engine, simple electronics, reliable & durable transportation…

Get a range afm/dfm delete and you won’t have lifter issues on the new style. It’s when it switches to 4 cylinder mode it starves the other cylinders of oil causing the lifter issue.

Had a 2002 Chevy avalanche and still have a 2012, 5.3 engine is bullet proof. Replaced the transmission on the 2012 at 230K miles last year.

I wouldn't buy anything built during the COVID years.

My lifters on one cylinder just went out just over the ridiculously low 60k powertrane warranty. 21 Tahoe. On the interstate as well. Tried to get replacement engine and none were available. Trying to get lifters replaced and drive the damn thing to the nearest dealer for something else. Absolutely ridiculous that gm can’t build something that last over 60k miles. Better than my buddies whose lifter went out under 10k.

Just about anything can offroad like a new Tahoe. Doesn't really set itself apart from the competition with it's off-roading capabilities.

This man is spitting truth!!

I bought an 18 Denali (used) and drove it for about 25k miles and sold it. I had electrical issues from a mis-firing coil pack. That made it impossible to tell what was going on until it was repaired. While sorting all that out, spoke with automotive mechanic and transmission mechanic. Both stated that at the 120k mile mark, you are on borrowed time with either the lifter issue and the Active Fuel Management starving the top half of the engine for oil, OR you will have transmission issues that will need repair. Worst case scenario is both.

I cut bait and went back to Toyota. I grew up a Chevy guy and was all I ever owned up until 4 years ago. Bought a Tundra and loved it. My son wanted it from the day I purchased it and made him a deal when I changed jobs. 3 weeks ago, I bought another Tundra and will most likely never own another Chevrolet unless it is an old muscle car.

I didn't think the new model SUVs dropped to 4 cylinders?

My wife has the 22 suburban Z71 and it shuts off at redlights but doesn't say anything when/if it's dropping to 4 cylinders when cruising?

My ram puts up an eco mode light.

I don't think they have one for the '21+ ECM. Chevy has done a good, or bad job, depending on how you're looking at it, at locking that down. Though my info could be out of date.

The new deactivation system has random patterns and capability of shutting down single cylinders at a time. Some folks complain of a squealing sound when it kicks in. I know that some of the '21+ models had it deleted at the factory because of the chip shortage. Don't know if there's anyway you could find out if it's been factory deleted, but my guess is that those will be the most reliable of the bunch.

Buy any Toyota Sequoia from 2011-2022.

Probably the best motor and transmission in any vehicle in the last 10-15 years.
