My guess is your gun happened to be a lemon because I rarely hear of 92s failing. But I can understand your frustration.

I own an M9 simply bc I've seen what the military does to them. We would have a hundred people shooting the same 6 to 8 M9s all day and I rarely ever saw a FTF that wasn't operator error. We put those guns through hell and they just kept on shooting.

Worst that can be said is the SA on the Beretta has a lot of take up but it breaks and resets better than any Glock can hope for without a custom trigger job.

Yeah - I don't know anybody who is as big a critic of the 92 than I am, but the trigger itself isn't the problem. The pistol is heavy (but I like classic Sigs, and they're heavy, too), but the weight is pretty well distributed. The ergonomics aren't great, though. The pistol doesn't feel good in the hand (IMHO) and the controls feel slapped on. Difficult to get a proper two-hand grip, for me.

And, getting down to the field stripping - compared to a M1911? It's a breeze. Compared to a Glock or classic Sig? It seems needlessly complicated. Don't get me started with the "flap" below the chamber.

It also rusts like it is nobody's business - I've heard folks make the same claim about Sigs, but I've never experienced it after owning roughly half dozen over 25 years.

Mine has jammed a couple times, but it’s been shot a whole bunch.

I don’t find the controls on the M9 bad at all, but I don’t use the safety on it hardly at all. I just use it to decock

I have both.

IMO the real answer is less about which one you're more "comfortable" with and more about which one you're more proficient with with.

You're sorta comparing oranges and tangerines. Both are 9mm, but the triggers are quite different (DA/SA for the 92, and DAO for the G17). Most people can master a DAO trigger pretty quickly. Lots of folks never really master both the SA and the DA aspects of a gun like the 92 (which is why so few LE agencies issue SA/DA handguns).

Another big issue (for me) is the presence of a manual safety on the 92. I don't care for them on any gun, but especially don't like slide-mounted safeties. And I'm a huge "non-fan" of safety levers that are flipped up to deactivate them.

If you go with the 92, the previous posted advice by Downshift & Floor It is good advice:

A DA/SA gun on the nightstand should sit hammer down, safety off.

Careful. Don't say that on this board. Everyone here is in agreement that the military only purchases and uses the cheapest shite made from the lowest bidder.

The military only purchases and uses the products of companies that offer the most bribes to the top brass

Hardly. Military tested the M9 against a G17 years ago and the M9 faired better in the salt fog test. I've never seen a rusted M9 in almost 20 years in the Army.

My experience differs from yours in this respect. I've never had a bad rust problem on a weapon issued to me, but the older one I had in Iraq required lots of TLC. I've also seen other issued examples with superficial rust over about 80% of the top of the barrel.

I've seen M16's and M4's like that. A civilian Beretta isn't going to see the use and neglect that military M9's will see anyway. If I bought my 92FS with only thinking about GI M9's to compare it too then I would never own one, but there is no comparison and a few simple upgrades make it a much improved shooter.

I've decided on the 92. Good stuff in the thread though. Thanks guys.

From what I've read and heard you really can't go wrong with either.

I know you decided but add me to the 92 column.

Got about 10k rounds through mine. In the rain, snow, even went on a period where I fired 2k rounds through it with 0 cleaning in a contest against a friend.

Has never malfunctioned.

And you really, really can't go wrong with a Sig P226.

Spend a few extra pennies on what I've listed and you'll have something you'll truly enjoy putting in serious range time with.

You really can't. Pretty much everyone makes a very good fullsize 9mm these days. Really comes down to personal preference and budget constraints.

I'm afraid to let my better half try it at the range though, she'll probably try to give back the USP 45 in exchange...

Already planning on it

I’m tempted to spend a few pennies more and get the M9A3 just because it looks cool
