Belle River / Lake Verret Water Levels

My in-laws have a camp on 4 Mile Bayou Road/Bayou Magazile. We were thinking about heading there from Texas this weekend for Memorial Day, but the last time I heard the water was still way up over the docks, and as usual, that area was all no wake. Is that still the case? I'm not driving 5 hours to sit in the camp all weekend.

High as hell everywhere. I would stay away if you dont need to be there. Lots of people have water in their houses and camps, water on the roads, etc. It isnt a good time to go partying.

That entire area is closed for business for a while. I would stay away.

I'll upload some pics in a bit from bayou Tranquille. The water is wayyy up

Thanks for the update. I've been down there too many times when the water was starting to come over the road and flooding some of the ground level camps. It sucks because there isn't much you can do when it's like that. My kids love going but they will just have to wait until later in the summer. Thanks again.

Yeah from what I see Lake Verrett won’t be at normal levels until at least mid June. Was at the Spunky Monkey last week and a few baws said it was the highest they had recalled seeing it.

I heard within the last hour they plan to open the morganza in 10-15 days. Don’t know if that rumor or true but saw this on a fb page in Pierre part

FLOODING in House District 51:
I have just received confirmation that a barge will be placed in Bayou Chene ASAP and Morganza will be opened in 12-15 days.
Please share with those in Bayou Black, Gibson, Bayou L’Ourse, and any other local community that is experiencing flooding or is in danger of flooding when Morganza opens.
I will post more details when I receive them.

From a friend that lives in PP...it’s bad and it’s not going down anytime soon. In 2011 the highest bayou Boeuf at Amelia ever got was 3.5’ on 5/14/11......today’s reading is 4.93’. We didn’t get any rainfall in 2011, and when the Atchafalaya river crested on May 28, 2011 the barge was in place. Bayou Boeuf has been over 3’ plus since January 1st and over 4’ since March 28th........

I have a very hard time believing they will open th Morganza in 15 days. The water levels are going to crest in both the Mississippi and Atchaflaya around June 1st

Stephens ville is under and impassable. Water is over the docks at lake end park. Atchafalaya is angry right now. Zero news coverage on this flooding.

Maybe they worried about the pressure on the levees. Water has been high a very long time.

So they are going to wait until the water levels are going down to open the morganza? That makes zero sense. Open them now if you are going to open them. I know they want to wait til the last possible minute but early June seems like it would be too late if they need to open
ETA: also, won’t the opening of the morganza help the belle river/ verret area, while hurting the areas around morganza?

Which is terrible. I work with lots of guys who live down there and they're fighting it every day at their own house or someone close to them.

It’s not supposed to really start falling until 6/9. It’s still snowing and raining up north. Not sure where they plan on putting the water, damn Atch River is slap full.

Last Thursday water was over the road just above Stephensville.

4 mile bayou area is pretty much fricked. My parents have a place in Cypress Cove north of stephensville and they are high and dry with nothing to worry about. But south of there on 70 have most camps under water already

Quite the opposite. The lower Grand turns into Belle river and all that flows down to Morgan city and into the spillway via Bayou Chene. My camp has had 3' of water around it for a week. When the spillway is high, all that water drains painfully slow. When they sink that barge and block the drainage, any new rains will make the already flooded rivers rise faster and more.
It's a fricked up situation all around.

My parents are in the same area, and are high and dry as well. Water on the roads in the subdivision but the houses/camps should be safe there. Going down this weekend to hang out but I don't know how much we will actually get to do while down there.

Bring plenty of whisky and/or (preferably and) beer. Assumption enforcing no wake zones on all waterways so you will be sitting at the camp or at Tampicos the whole weekend. I guess you could idle around in the party barge but there will be boat patrols everywhere.
