We secured a spot at Bay Marina in BSL March - July. I'm looking for advice in general for safety concerns and tips for fishing the area. I plan to take a couple of guided trips to help get the lay of the land also. I'd also love some information on the run from BSL to the Biloxi marsh. I'll be running a 22' stingray with 200 Zuke.

The bay itself is very hit or miss. You can pick up some fish at the bay bridges or the interior marsh between BSL and Diamondhead but you are not going to slaughter the fish like you are used to if you normally fish south LA marsh.

As for the Biloxi Marsh, there are a lot of areas where depth can be a problem if you don't know the area. You also don't have cell service so make sure you have a radio or sat phone to call for help if needed.

22' stingray is a deck boat huh? Pick your days wisely as the Mississippi Sound can go from slick calm to rough as shite with the quickness

Cat Island is another cool place you can explore and fish from the boat/sit on beach/etc. It's only about 7 miles south of Pass Christian so not nearly as far as the Biloxi Marsh. There are a few obstructions and some shallow water on the points but I'd say it's more forgiving for a beginner to the area, you have cell service most of the time, and there will always be other boats there if you need help.

Thanks. The stingray is a V hull center console. Thanks for the heads up on shallow areas and cell service. I worry constantly about shallow spots since I'll mostly be fishing with my 12 y.o son.

I love a good sheepshead. One of my favorite fish. I know the fishing won't be as good as it was in Grand Isle but it seems like there is more to do in BSL for the wife and kids.

The Bay is great from Oct-March/April. Then it is just juveniles during the summer - same pattern as any other place. It's a fantastic winter fishery.

I tagged 60 legal (15" in MS) trout around the Bay yesterday and another 30 last week when I went out.

There isnt really anything that will cause your boat harm that isnt on a normal GPS. No random mud flats like in LA.

I wade fish the beach all the time between BSL and Waveland. Catch the tide right and you can hammer down on trout and redfish.

No problem. Our camp is about two minutes from Bay Marina. Mr. Bob (marina owner) may come across as an arse at first but once you get to know him he and his wife are nice as can be. There is indeed a ton of stuff to do year round in BSL between the downtown restaurant/bar scene/shops, rivers, beaches, fishing, casinos, etc. If you have any specific questions about BSL/Biloxi Marsh/Cat Island I'd be happy to answer via email.

Spring time run out to Cat island and wade fish for trout and reds.

No size or creel limit on black drum. Several times we filled up the box with 14-20 inch drum and sheephead.

July and August night fish bridges and docks for white trout by the millions.

That’s all I got.

Thanks for the offer and I'll likely take you up on that. I spoke with Bob a couple of weeks ago about what was available and he did come across a little ornery but he was also dealing with cruising the coast stuff. The reviews on the place were good and although it's going to take some time to learn how and where to catch fish, the family will enjoy heading to the islands and riding the river in between.

This. They put rubble reefs near the beach in Waveland, BSL, Pass Christian, etc... All are acccessible even in small boats. Usually fun fishing and you can put together a variety box with trout, reds, drum, sheephead, flounder, white trout, ground mullet, etc...

Are they visible above the waterline? I see the MDW has some coordinated listed on their site for manmade reefs in the area.

I plan to order a standard mapping card for the area, mostly for the Biloxi marsh. Have any of you used them in that area? The reviews were hit and miss for marsh areas.

Most are visible above the waterline, yes. In fact, i believe all of them still are. Gene Taylor is the big one directly south of the mouth of the bay.
