Please share your story...

It's March. It's that time of year. It's bass spawning season. It's absolutely the time of year when you can catch big bass. And "doubles".

False River. Near Baton Rouge. Around March, 1971. I was trolling the north end in morning (put in at New Roads). Trolling at about 4 MPH in around 10 - 15 ft. with a 3/4 oz. "Smoky" Cordell Hot Spot (black back/smoke grey sides). Bait about 150 feet from boat. Bait was bumping the bottom. Caught several 1 - 2 pounders early.

Then I got a hit that felt like a monster. Cut the engine. When they came to the top I thought what I had was a turtle (flat looking at the surface). Reeled them in. I had 2 bass (almost identical) weighing about 3 pounds each. One on each treble. No embellishing (fisherman's tale) - I weighed them later.

Wow. It was weird. Will never forget the experience. Thought I would share. Any other stories of you guys catching "doubles"?

I never have. My dad was tellin me that they had just opened Toledo bend to fishin when he was a kid. My grandpaw took them perch fishing out there. He said he watched a guy throwing a hot spot fill up an ice chest, leave, then come back and fill up another one.

Said that about every four or five casts he'd come up with two on the hooks. Must've been unreal back then!

Wow!

My brother and I went fishing in my boat at Toledo Bend when it first opened (in about 1967).

Yes, I'm old. But I was there at the start of the opening of TB (more or less).

My brother and I were fishing the north end of TB when all the submerged trees still had leaves on them.

Yea, I'm an old timer.

Never caught doubles then.

I wasn't that good back then. Oh, well.

August / Sept time frame around 06 I believe.

Fayette County Lake - TX

Deep water discharge canal in about 22-25 ft of water.

Was fishing a Shad Colored DT-16 (Rapala deep diving crank)

Fish started schooling and I land 2 bass each was about 2.5 lbs a piece.

I have a pic somewhere I will try and find it.

Probably 15 years ago but I caught two "school" size bass on a Balsa B. Hooked the first one then felt another bump. After that it was almost like pulling in dead weight. One on the front hook and one on the back hook.

Id never put spawn and catching doubles together.

Caught double before on deep diving crank bait Natchez Lake. Late afternoon middle of summer

Not sure if this officially qualifies as a double, but one summer a friend and I fished the Bayou Benoit area weekly (sometimes more than once). We'd typically catch a few bass early in the morning and then switch over to fill the chest with bream/goggle-eye/sac-a-lait. One morning, I had a clear tiny torpedo on and kept getting strikes by fingerlings, some even got hooked. I kinda figured it was a matter of time and eventually it happened. A fingerling got hooked and as I pulled it along the top toward the boat, a 2-2 1/2 lber decided he liked the looks of that breakfast.

Did it twice..... First was at Anacoco lake on a smokey joe spot

Second time was on a bleeding shad Rat L Trap on Hurricane Lake in Ms. (Private lake)

Must be something about lipless baits

depends on how big of a stick bait you use, and how many times you crank the phone,,,, duh.

Fishing top water with my uncle and father about 15 years ago on lake Claiborne. My uncle had a small (< 1 lb) bass take his Devil's horse. As he was reeling that fish in, all of a sudden his line got really heavy. When he got the lure back to the boat, a 5 lb. bass had tried to eat the smaller bass.

He pulled both into the boat. The smaller bass being inside the bigger bass' belly. Pretty cool.

Crankbait. Mouth of Palmer Chapel Oxbow. Can't recall if two spots or a spot and a largemouth, but it was two on that same bait.

Pretty routine (well, maybe not "routine" but for sure not uncommon) on Toledo Bend when catching 11.8 in school bass.

Same on some of the red river oxbow's when those white bass get turned on.

PS - every time I've done it, it's been one of the above situations on a chrome rattle trap.

Probably done it 5 times, seen it that many more by someone in else I was fishing with.

I've never caught anything CLOSE to the 2 #3's you mentioned fwiw.

It's bound to be happening more often with the popularity of these A-rigs. It's never happened to me personally with bass but I used to catch doubles on a speck rig routinely.

I saw a show recently with two guys killing the bass at 6 mile on a-rigs. They never caught a double. They thought they had one on once but they were not sure if the second one was hooked or if it was just following. You can bet I'll be there next January with one tied on. Pretty sure I know where they were.

Was fishing a texas rig when a few tiny little schoolies popped up near the boat. All I had was a tequila sunrise ratltrap. Threw is in there and got one right off the bat, as I am reeling him in on top, a huge bass thumps him and the bait. At one point he dug under the boat with bait in mouth, and little bass hanging sideways out of it.

Fish was about 7 or so. Little fish came off before landing. I don't think the big one was trying to eat the little one, I think he just got turned funny

Do umbrella rigs count? If so, still "no".

I caught two sacaulait on a sacaulait umbrella rig once.
