Oh I know. I used to guide for a little service and when I would go hunting with my boss he always brought his dog. Anytime the dog would come in and my boss would pull out his pocket knife, I knew what was going on.
That's why the mother fricker had a whole lanyard full.

Our rule is he who shoots said banded duck, gets band. If its a tie, flip a coin.

Wow, went from 10 to 25 bucks. Inflation I guess. I wouldn't keep a band if I knew I didn't kill it. Would be like having a 8 pt mount on the wall you didn't kill.

Major flyway. Yea the piney woods of west central La. We kill around a hundred ducks a year. Lots of mallards though. Not bad considering I'm 30 minutes from the blind.

True when hunting with buddies. Not true when some douche from out of state comes to Louisiana and talks shite the whole time about our state. The type that doesn't know the difference between a mallard and a pheasant. To me thats like having an eight point on the wall that was killed in a ten acre high fence. I may be wrong. But if I (or someone else like me) wasn't there to tell him what to shoot, when to shoot,...ect. he would be better off playing duck hunt on nitendo!

If one wanted to you can get a spotting scope and find collars on geese while bunched up in a field.

Theoretically, if one becomes efficient at this, one could accumulate a large trash bag full of neck bands over a couple of years.

I totally understand. Took a guided hunt a few years back and ended up being paired with a New England jerk. He never shut up, and couldn't hit the broad side of Oprah. Only cool thing is that I killed most of his limit.

I always have believed the key to killing bands is to shoot certain species. Shooting either geese or mallards gives you a better chance. I want to say the statistics used to show mallards being the most banded duck species by far. I've taken a banded mallard and canvasback, and had guys in our blinds shoot two more banded mallards, a banded woody, and a banded teal. Even in years when we killed 1,500 ducks we would get only one or maybe two bands a season, then you hear stories about the guy who gets 4 or 5 a season. Did have my dad's buddies who took a pintail with a radio transmitter on it, that was certainly interesting.

he is one lucky guy. been hunting for 13 years hoping for a greenhead, pintail, banded duck, golden eye, and woody. finally got the green 3 years ago and golden eye this year so the only thing i got left is the band, pintail, and woody. but where i hunt nobody has killed one with a band in 35 years. but when i do u bet its going on my wall. uncle shot a male pintail banded 5 years ago and its the sickest mount i have seen. Its standing on one leg with his head facing back scratching his neck with the band right in front.

That is identical to my banded pintail mount except the wing is lifted and the bill is under the wing.

and the issue about keeping the band i wouldnt keep it if i didnt shoot it but if somebody wants to give me an 8 pt buck mounted i would definitly take it. guy was throwing away a mounted green head and a widgeon and asked if i wanted them so i took them even though i never shot either one before. But i knew i wouldnt be long before i did. next year opening day had a pair of widgeon, male and female, come in on me dropped them both then the next morning droppend my first green head. both were on my list to mount but since i had the ones from the guy it saved me 400 dollars. but i guess a deer is a little different but still makes your wall look pretty.

Not to toot my own duck call, but I have about 10 bands. One from a woodduck and the rest mallards. Two of which had a band on each leg, and got a big sum of ten dollars for each mallard.

Ha, I finally IRL'd you! I couldn't figure out who you were until this info.

Didn't we have this conversation about reward bands in the blind on a front day about 14 years ago when we used to hunt together a little? We had a flight of about 50 greenwings interupt that conversation that morning if I remember correctly...

Eta: I got this one 3 or 4 years ago... pay no attention to the floating shell in the old model benelli.

I've got three:

One woodduck from Iowa
One woodduck from Minnesota
One greenhead for Saskewon (sp?)

The greenhead was 6 years old and the band was almost worn smooth
