In SC during baiting season they have a concoction of fish meal and clay, when mixed with water on your boat, you make patties out of them so the current doesn't roll them away. Each one is marked with a tall pvc pole a few feet to the side so your net lands right on top of the patty. It is very effective.

1. Open can
2. Get a dip size pinch
3. Pitch it off back boat about every 15 seconds
4. Throw cast net when you see bait flashing
5. Profit
We get pinfish, greenbacks, pilchards, and thread-fin pretty easy this way.
ETA: Try and throw in same spot every time. Keeps the bait congregated and and easier to net. About 2’-4’ off the back. Let the current do the work.
