Why use 2x6 for decking? Why not just use 1x6 decking? Would be much cheaper and no loss of strength?

ETA: decking boards may be 5/4 thick, I can't rememeber

Actually in my area the price of the 2x6 and deck boards are pretty much the same..maybe pennies difference.

I just built a 12x22 deck at my camp with deck boards for well under a Grand. Next project is to roof and frame it and screen it in!

Seems like the OB doesnt like paying so doubt you like the quote. I do carpenter work on side and I try not to work for anyone not OT rich for this very reason.

Do you have plans for the roof? We put one in at our camp and I am having a hard time coming up with plans for a roof. I am also an idiot so I may be making it harder than it needs to be. Ours is 16'x24'

for a 15'x20'x3" driveway extension i was quoted $1200 for form and pour/finish. I did the formwork and a little dirt removal and had it poured and finished for $500

Speaking of IPE....I'm thinking of redoing an existing deck. If I go for the high-end wood, should I get IPE or Cumaru? (Houston area). Anyone know about these two...pros vs. cons? Thanks.

Contractor here along the gulf coast. We use cumaru on most houses that we build and have had no problems with it. It's half the cost of Ipe. I'm paying $3.79 lf for 5/4'and $2.79 lf for 3/4. Only maintenance is applying penofin wax sealer every few years to keep the luster. The concealed fastener system looks really clean too

My shed was 16 ft. deep. I just had a sheet metal shop cut me some 18 ft. pieces of tin. You'll need about 8 or 9 pieces to span 24 ft. I think we did a foot of drop for every 10 feet of run. In other words the back is about a foot and a half lower than the front running the 16 ft. distance.
