Area 2 Youth Deer Hunt this Weekend

My daughter is with her Grand Dad for fall break this week and they are shooting a PSA .223 Wylde all week to make sure she can hit. I told her she has to put 3 in row inside of a small paper plate at 75 yards to get the full go ahead for Saturday.
Here is her set up.
PSA Rifle Length .223 Wylde. Stock fully collapsed. 10 round mag.
Paired with a Bushnell AR/223 3-9X40 mm drop point reticle. (She only needs the crosshairs as you'll see below)
She'll be shooting these Winchester 64 grain .223.
Target Nanny photographed at 50 yards in front of our box stand while I was bow hunting this weekend.
I think she's got a honest shot at killing her first. She sat with me a bunch last year and has shown a lot of interest.
Bring on the .223 hate.

I say make it a challenge and go with the .556 FMJ. The girl also needs to learn how to blood trail

My kids were deadly with a .223 growing up. Small Balls was like 9 out of 10 and my daughter was 2 for 2. They didn't start missing and/or wounding deer until I upgraded them to "better" deer calibers.
Granted, they weren't shooting a black assault weapon of war and murder. It was just a regular old Rem 700.

I killed my 3 first deer with a .223 Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle. I remember I was shooting Remington CoreLockts. I blood trailed all of them at least 100 yards, some longer.
It's just been so long since then and I didn't know then what I know now about ballistics, etc.. It honestly makes me worry a little.
However, I also know a well placed shot will do the trick.
I sent her this video to watch. Where To Aim
And multiple images like these to study...

My daughter killed her first with a 223 shooting fusions. Between me and my kids we killed 6-7 from 35yd-150yd and every one died and either DRT or left classic spray blood trails. Almost all were shot in the “crease” classic archery shot placement.
This is a bullet that almost existed after passing through the body of a 170-180 pound buck broadside and stopped under the far shoulder skin.
Hunt with confidence and good luck

Middle of the deer through the shoulder. No tracking.
I wish i was home to take my kids. We'll be there opening of rifle. They're shooting 270 and I'll bring my 7mm RM for backup. Don't think I'll need it but it has a much better scope.
The recoil won't matter if the adrenaline is pumping through them. I don't let them shoot targets because they'll develop a flinch. They shoot 22lr and good for 50yds.
Good luck.

New image Grand Dad just sent me. He said she is shooting a little high, but that her grouping is respectable with the exception of a few low stray shots...
He's going to move it down 1 inch and dial it in a little more.

Leave it an inch high at a hundred. If longer shots I'd go 2" high, but for now an inch will do.

That's how I typically have my .270 set.

She won't be shooting farther than 100 yards.
That and that scope is designed for the caliber to be dead on at 100 and each drop point below is another 100 yards.

She'll kill a deer all day long with that group.

I smell backstraps frying.

I shoot these as well but in 6mm Remington. No matter the shot placement (I like the lower neck) most dont seem to exit the far side and generally fragment upon entry. Good news is that most drop deader than hell.
