Are there any "tactical" shooting training places in DFW?

Looking for something to help with real world scenarios for my pistol training. Something like Taran Tactical in California.

Taran Tactical isn't tactical at all, ironically. It's pretty much a competition based facility. Are you looking for actual tactical training or competition type training.

I think Colion Nior talks about a place just outside of DFW that he goes to. May want to look at his website. Here is the website of the place he mentions. LINK

Actual tactical. I just referenced that one because people seem to know it. Seeing that video of the guy running at the lady cop and her dealing with a jam makes me realize I need more than just range time.

Side note, I carry a FNS 9c, but thinking about getting a .45 for carry purposes, do you have a recommendation?

That is only about 50 mins from my house. I'll look into it. Thanks.

Didn't see that video, but a lot of things like dealing with jams, reloading, etc are things you can practice at home with no ammo. But, training at a range with an instructor is also very valuable. Sorry but I don't have any recommend in the DFW area as I don't live there. Seems like there would be plenty, though.

Stick with 9mm. Good ammo and shot placement are what you should focus on.

Don't disagree, but for the record, I did add a Walther PPQ .45 to my collection recently.

It's a hike, but I live in Dallas and took a ton of training here:

It was awesome. I took pistol 1 and 2, Carbine and Shotgun classes. Each class was 3 days long and you shoot thousands of rounds. Very in depth training.
This was all about 15 years ago though so things may have changed.

I probably don't give my Shield 45 enough credit around here but it's such a fantastic carry pistol. After handling the Shield 9 and Shield 45 I went with the 45 because it was about 1/4" longer in the grip which was just enough for me to get all my fingers on the grip without having to use the extended magazine. I can get about 1/2 the width of my pinky on the bottom of the grip. Doesn't seem like a lot but makes a big difference with a small pistol. It's probably one of the reason that the felt recoil of the Shield 45 wasn't too drastically different for me than the 9mm. Losing a round (6+1 v 7+1) for me was a tiny trade off to be able to comfortably carry a big bore. Read and watch any of the reviews but a common theme is how soft the pistol shoots for a 45. Yes it has *a little* more recoil than the Shield 9mm but the recoil really is very easy to control and keep the pistol on target and follow up shots are quick. People describe it as more of a "shove" at your hand instead of a "Punch" and I think that's pretty accurate.

I’m sure there’s a place close to DFW, but there’s also guys that travel around and teach at various ranges.

You shoot something like 1,000 rounds a weekend from vehicles, through windows, etc. I’m assuming that’s what OP is talking about, self defense type of stuff.
