Are amite and diversion canals open to boaters in ascension parish right now?

I read Livingston and tangipahoa parishes closed all waterways but can’t find anything on Ascension. Thinking of going out Sunday, but just wondering if there’s a website or anything I can check to see what’s open and closed. TIA

I doubt it. Generally all of that gets closed down for floods.

For recreation yes its closed. Commercial fisherman and home owners trying to access their properties can do so legally. Be mindful of your wake.

It should be closed, even if it wasn't you should be boating it out of respect for residence or camps.

There was a joint announcement between livingston and ascension closing all waterways.

The water is so high that if someone tried to go out recreationally right now I would hope they get shot at

Yeah makes sense. Obviously it’s real high right now. I just didn’t know how long it takes to drain out. But I kind of knew the answer to that question before I asked. But as a follow up is there a website anywhere that tells you what’s opened and closed for future reference?

False is always my backup plan when the water is high.

As long as the 30 mph East winds persist, it is not going to drain. As a longtime owner of a place on the River, I should warn you of the reaction you will (appropriately) get if you go joyriding while water is in people’s homes and camps.

Current water conditions at my house, I would suspect if you tried to boat ride more lead would hit you than water droplets...

The house is fine, it would have required 3.5 more feet of water in ‘16 to get into the house, but the high water just leaves a mess on the docks and in the yard

I have some people in the back of the neighborhood that didn't sniff water in 16...
they got almost 3' in their homes with this storm...
they back up to Clay Cut Bayou...
just couldn't move that much water out fast enough...

Plenty of logs, docks, boats, etc……floating down the river right now. Great way to lose a lower unit.

There are trees floating down diversion , between losing a lower unit and probably getting shot , wouldn’t try it this weekend

I have about 2 feet in my downstairs and 3 feet on. My closed in patio. I can only get there by boat at the times as the water is about 3 feet on the street. It’s not going anywhere until at least Tuesday and it will be a slow drop. Gauge at amite French settlement is 5-9 and will still be in the 5s Tuesday
