So investigating some hunting property and the only hold up is that the well seems to have issues but not sure exactly what.

Assuming the worst what would it cost to completely recomplete the well?

Have one, but have been pretty lucky other than one hiccup when we purchased. How deep is it?

Still waiting on the details. It is up north but there is a stream on the property. I would assume 150-250ft.

We have a well on our club in Morehouse Parish, it's shallow about 60ft or so. The water has so much iron in it that you can't drink it and it stains EVERYTHING, I put some in a clear quart jar and it turned to rust on the bottom after it went through 2 carbon water filters.

Carbon doesn’t do hardly anything to dissolved iron concentrations. As the water sits out, the iron oxidizes from soluble ferrous species (Fe2+) to relatively insoluble ferric species (Fe3+), which precipitate out and form the rust on the bottom.

Need a green sand or an RO filter to remove iron (and Mn).

Can one recomplete tell a water well? My understanding is you get what you get pertaining to flow rates, quality of water, etc. I would budget for a new well (knowing what I know about your sitch currently: nothing really)

I don't know shite about water wells but if it is just a burnt up motor how much would that cost, assuming it is a submersible pump.

I had to replace my pump several years ago. It was about 400 for the pump.

Couple of grand at the most BUT rarely is the pump the actual problem. Is it a submersible pump?

My well has a .5 hp submersible that has been in the well since 1984.

Buy a good one if you have to replace it.

Check your "points" first. It is basically a switch on top that cost about $25. LINK

I had to replace mine after Laura. Complete system with carbon tank and softener ran about $2500 i think. I think for a system like mine its typically $2k to $3k.

I replaced my pump and bought tanks last year.

I replaced the old pump in kind, with another 1 1/4 hp pump. The guy who installed it said Franklin pumps are the best. He charged me $1200 for pump and install. That pump is overkill for most places.

Amtroll Well-X troll is supposed to be the best tank. Sized to my pump and pressure, I needed two tanks, they were about $700 each. Smaller pumps will require smaller tanks, and likely only one of them.

aquascience

Aquascience had the best price, by far on tanks. Some sites were up to twice the price.

I probably spent $200-$300 on all stainless hardware for the pumps.

I would budget $2k, $3k at the most for new everything.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but does anyone know who can work on these wells/pumps in the St Francisville area? I've got one that isn't working.

Gill Water Wells east of Amite...don't know if they will travel to St. Fran...google for their number. Bil had them put a well down a few years about 6 miles west of Kentwood.
