Justin Lucas is throwing a drop shot on a shallow grass flat. In the last 2 days he has lost a 10, 8, 7. and a 6. He has landed some good ones too.

Trying to figure out why he hasn't rigged that drop shot on a bait caster w/ 12lb. I wouldn't think the water is that clear, but those are some highly pressured fish. Seems like a rod with little back bone would keep those fish out of the grass. If it was a clean bottom I could understand, but he's fishing on the big stage and I am at the office.

Yep I heard them say its 10# braid w 10# flouro. I just got back from Rayburn yesterday, he was fishing around us most of his tourney. I think he thinks he cant get bit if he goes heavier especially when the wind lays down. We chased the wind all week only way we could catchem. Wednesday afternoon it got crazy on windblown bushes.

Wow dead sticking on bottom just to get bit. The lack of wind is brutal. I've got 3 guys fishing the ABA that have all zero'd. Local sticks too.

I made it to Rayburn last night. My 2 brothers have been here a few days and absolutely hammered big fish yesterday evening drop shotting. Funny thing is if I would’ve have been with them yesterday evening they would’ve never tried drop shot because they usually follow my lead and fish similar to whatever I’m fishing. I just never had a ton of confidence drop shot.

My morning did not get off to a good start. I’ve never not been able to catch fish and good fish at Rayburn or Toledo on a swim jig especially this time of the year. My brothers caught good fish most of the morning. I didn’t catch a fish until 9:50am but when I started, we didn’t stop catching until 2pm.

We found some great grass edges mid- morning and I put a Fluke on and we hammered them. Good fish too. I was throwing that Fluke on top of the grass and sliding it off to let it fall.

Too many damn people fishing here right now though. These fish have had Chatterbaits, swim jigs and just about every other bait burned in front of them the last 3 weeks.

Leaving here Monday and going to fish Toledo a few days before going home. Anyone fish Toledo this week? Water level still low and is anyone finding any grass.

We are getting ready to head back out to fish to dark or maybe a little later.

ETA: I see where a poster above stated they are fishing 10# braid w/ 10# fluro leader. I spent a little while this morning stripping 20-40# braid on most of my reels off so I could I could restring w/ lighter line. My brothers told me last night to respool but I was too tired. It made a difference though

I’ve been trying to follow, but work has been a little too busy.

I was actually surprised none of the MLF guys weren’t throwing a fluke. I went to a public pond this afternoon and caught a bunch on a fluke.

Quick evening trip. Fished for a little over an hour. Wore out from work and driving over last night.

All in all we had a good day 7 fish over 4# and caught tons of smaller male fish.

What color Fluke you like fishing? We did our best on Watermelon and pumpkin colors today.

I have 298 acres in SELA on the SWMS state line where I have a larger burrow pit and in there the best color Fluke is baby bass and white ice. A few weeks ago we were using the Fluke Jrs in those colors and crushed the sacalait on them along with bass.

Younger brother loves em. I do as well.

Man, I’ve been fortunate over the years. I’ve always had great luck hunting and fishing. I had 2 bouts with cancer over the last 20 years and things were never easy but I’ve been blessed.

I was able to buy that property over 6 years ago to have to mostly hunt on short weekends when it’s hard to get to NELA to hunt. The deer aren’t as big as what we kill in Tensas but it’s great place.

That pit is just getting right. We had to take several hundreds of pounds of smaller bass out the first 3 years and we put a good dent in the sacalait each year where they don’t get out of control. 3 years ago, after culling the shite out of the fish, my 2 brothers chipped in and we stocked it with some F1 bass to go along with the good bass that were already in there. We also stocked with a shitload of bullhead minnows.

The pit had been there almost 20 years by the time I bought it and already had big bass in there. The first 2 years we caught several fish 6-8#. The third and fourth year I owned it we caught a couple 9s and this last year we caught our first double digit bass out there. My older brother caught an 11.14 and I caught a 10.7. Had a biologist say I may get some up to 15# but I doubt I’ll get one that big in there. That 11-13# range in a pit my size is about as big as a couple might get and that’s fine with me. I can’t remember how big the F1s are supposed to get but I know they grow pretty fast the first 3-5 years, usually spawn good and are aggressive. They’re a Florida and norther bass strain. I’m not 100% sure what strain the bigger females we caught out there are. I’m guessing just a regular SE strain large mouth.
