Damn look at all the downvotes. The OB is very helpful, but so judgmental at times.

must be full of deer camp "presidents" in here.

My buddy build a semi-auto 1919 from an Israeli parts kit. Loaded and linked up 10 rounds of .308 ballistic tip. Game warden told him "It's not explicitly illegal, but come on, Man."

Out of respect for him, he never used it on a deer.

how is that any different from a "regular" 308 rifle, 7 mag or 338 lapua that some people use without anyone blinking an eye?

Why?

A 270, 243, 30-06, etc. are all superior deer platforms. An AK for deer hunting is dum.

As most have stated here, it’s a decent hog gun if you need the higher capacity magazine to take out a group of them.

As for the 7.62x39 round, it’s very comparable to a 30-30 or a supersonic 300 BLK. Decent for short to mid range but I wouldn’t trust it much farther out than that. Something with more velocity and accuracy will do much better.

Bought a CIA RAS47 Zhukov to hunt hogs a couple of years ago. Ended up losing our lease and the rifle has still never been fired. I bought a scope mount and everything for it. Will probably end up selling it.

it’s a ton of fun to shoot and cheap to do it.
I’d find a place you can shoot it and have a blast

I have an old beatup (bought used) AK that is my tractor gun. I mounted in where I can easily get to it and leave chamber clear.

I have killed many a hog from it. Bastards are car\truck\atv shy but think nothing of the tractor.

N-PAP with a Russian version of an ACOG. Cheek-to-stock weld sucks though....

If you can find an M76 stock for a non astronomical price, it’ll bolt right up and shoulders way nicer than the M70 stock. No cheek slap whatsoever.

ETA: here’s a photo illustrating the difference in comb and the butt angle

Since they are very similar, what about using an sks for hunting?

My Dad used an SKS for deer hunting, after using a .30-06 for years.
He was the laziest hunter imaginable. Put a feeder in the middle of the field, and shot them from the kitchen window.

Yeah, something I've kept a casual eye out for but they don't come up often in good shape. I might make my own one of these years.

Sell that ras for real. just look up ras 47 trunion and see. Cast trunions and bolt carrier. Not good at all. What sucks is that its a nice feeling gun but terrible quality. Arsenal veprs are solid. Wasrs are generally good just make sure sights arent canted. Imported CIA are hit and miss. Dont buy any ak47 built in america unless it states clearly forged parts. Like buying a ar 15 made in check republic.

All of this...but I would probably try out a PSA ak gen 3 if I wanted an american made one.

to me, the best combo of price, quality & availability is the good ole MAK90. they made many millions of them so they are easy to find, the good ones are milled/forged, the trigger is the best stock one out there, and the sights are usually straight.

plus parts for mods are all readily gettable. i really like mine
