I've been researching molds online and they're not expensive at all. Any tips ?

What are you trying to make? I used to have a hand poured plastics company on the side. I will try to answer any questions.

I'm interested in this as well. 5 bucks for a pack of soft craws adds up quick when i use 3 packs a weekend

I use Matrix Shads more than anything in the marsh and Brush Hogs in Freshwater. If I'm just recycling do I just need an injector, a mold, and a microwave?

youtube has many many videos on doing it
i looked into it and it looks like fun but stinky so you need your own outdoor place to do it and a cheap garage sale microwave. you can almost get them free when the paint is peeling or the glass turntable plate is missing

and the best part about it is all those busted torn shredded baits you throw away can be remelted into brand new baits again

Basically. I would also add that you need a cup to melt it in. Pyrex measuring cups are the best. A respirator is a good thing to have too.
Now, recycling baits is not always the best idea. Others will argue with me about this. Large manufacturers don't use the best quality plastic so it can be inconsistent. Also, a used bait will hold some moisture. Water and melted plastic do not mix. It is like throwing water into a pot of hot grease.

yes but the plastic isnt that expensive to buy, a gallon is like $30 and you can make like 100 lures with it making any color with or without glitter that you want, even half and half colors
i didthe math and its like 10 cents cost to make a swim bait like a cocahoe minnow or matrix shad and 12 cents for frogs or crawfish baits

I still have all of my old recipes and pricing breakdown somewhere. I would buy my plastic in 5 gallon increments, glitter by the pound and colors by the gallon. I would also buy salt by the case. My pricing was quite compressed because of this.
I have some old pics too. I will add them to the thread if interested.

Its best to mix remelts with new plastisol and add heat stabilizer. Remelts will tend to yellow. If you are doing it to save money.... you wont. You will keep adding new molds, colorants, glitters, etc every chance you get!

Black and blue laminate.
Various flukes
Red Shad 10 inch worm
Tequila Sunrise blended brush hog
Red shad craw
Just goofing around with colors
Again, just goofing around
Part 1 of a swimbait order going to England
Part 2
Part 3
I have more pics, but this is enough for now.

Jank,
I’m definitely interested in learning more about this. Your colors look pretty jam up. Is it pretty labor intensive to make your baits, especially to this level?

Not really. It just takes practice to get your temps right and recipes right. The pouring is quite easy. I would only use 2 piece molds. You can also do hand injection which is even easier. You need special molds for that. You really need a place that has good ventilation though. The fumes are pretty bad. I ran a fan and wore a respirator.

That's really cool. Yeah I would do it under my back patio.

Curious about those swimbaits, happen to remember what your cost per swimbait worked out too? Asking for a guy who goes through a shite ton of swimbaits.

Yea I would do it under my carport as far as ventilation goes. Where do you get all of your supplies, preferably not in bulk?

These kids were already making injected soft baits in the early 90s!

3" swimbait was $.08/bait. This was several years back so that may change.
That covered:
Plastic
Color
Flake
Scent
