Our male has a pretty good litter on the ground right now in SW La. if you want more info, you know what to do...

Female is a pretty solid dog. We will likely breed our female next spring - skipping fall heat - don't want her full of pups during hunting season.....

Just curious (I'm probably 3 years out from another dog), but how big are the males and females that your dog throws?

I love our Boykin partly because shes on the small end (28lb) but I've noticed a trend of the breed getting bigger ans now see lots of 40lb+. I know that's within their normal range but they seem to be being bred for size now more than when I got ours 7 years ago.

having owned a 28# female and now a 48# male, there is honestly no comparison. The female was nice for the house and was a great dog that hunted all over the country, but 48# of muscle is just capable of so much more.

But the point of a Boykin is that it IS small. I hunt from kayaks, pirogue and canoes and it is way easier to get my 28lb boykin in and out than it would be a 50lb dog. I have a 40lb+ half lab half boykin and the difference in handling the two is noticeable.

What I give up in strength and stamina is more than made up for in portability. I can take that dog into places that I would struggle to get a dog as big as 50lbs into.

females 24 - 31... males 30-45.... I'll disagree will Nolaks while the larger ones are a little quicker with some types of cover - the little ones get the same job done. .our 28lb female had at least 8 fetches on duck hunts last year where birds fellin blown downs and log piles that a larger dog simply couldn't have gotten to. nothing my 46 lb male(who is down to 39 right now - he got hit by a truck april 30 and is just getting back to his normal old self now) can do that the 28lb female can't do.

except.. when big male got his collar hung on a fence he pulled hard and broker collar.... female could not do that. the person taking our POL from this litter, has a big male...... wants a little female....

if the giant dog was better theory held true you'd see 100 lb labs at field trials...... you do not....

not giant dog. You don't see 25# labs dominating either. Do you not think mule/chief (my dogs father)/Leine are the best boykins that have run. What do they weigh. And trials aren't even extremely taxing. I was forced to hunt open water divers last year all year. We usually shot either 12 or 18. Retreives were long and taxing, usually 6 birds to a volley with the last ones being extremely long downwind. I don't think any sub 30# is doing that. I usually agree with you, and will say a 30# is awesome for dove field/woods/rice field, but the bigger dog does all that well too.

I have a 13 year old female and might be interested even though my wife said no more dogs.

How the hips in the line you have? My girl can't get around like she used too on stairs and such.

They are GREAT dogs.

Heads up about Boykins. They are high strung dogs with a lot of energy. Twice the amount of a Lab as a pup.

If it was the fall heat I’d get one for my kids for Christmas. The wife gave the ok for it recently.

Anyone know of a litter close to that time?

I will ask around... interesting 10 pups in litter.. i think 5 went to TX 2 to BR(POL for us) demand for this breed right now keeps growing westward and northward. as for being more hyper than lab or any other bird dawg breed puppy....not in my observation. a little more clingy maybe.
