I see them at Academy all the time, but I don't know much about them. I do not yet own an O/U and I was thinking about purchasing one as a beginner O/U. They make a good looking gun and they run around $500 which is $1500 cheaper than some of the more well known brands. Any of y'all have any experience with Yildiz?

Many of the lower end guns handle like a 2x4, but not all of them. I have not handled that model. Go handle one and swing the gun, then swing a berreta, perhaps a browning, a cz. See how they feel in your hands. Try handling different length barrels if that is an option. Just doing that will help narrow down your choices.

know a couple guys that have one. triggers aren't great and the action is very sticky when they are new, but as you said its $1500 cheaper so...

You get what you pay for

Could you recommend a good start O/U under $1000?

2 of my brothers own them and are very pleased with them. They're comparable in quality with the Stoeger at the same price point but the Yildiz is a little fancier.

Overall the reviews online are very positive and the general consensus is if you're not going to spend $2000+ on an O/U then the Yildiz and Stoeger are your best bet.

Yeah, I'd like to eventually own a good O/U one day but I'd like to get a cheap starter gun first

Go hold some guns and see what feels good. This should be your first step

For new good quality o/u’s look at a franchi (they have nice fit and finish) or a Winchester 1001, they are ported come w/ lots of chokes and are quite nice. Also look at a used beretta or browning before I lost my citori in a tragic boating accident it was 25 yrs old with thousands of rounds thru it w/o a hiccup.
Ruger is an option too - not the fit and finish of B guns but point and swing great.

a few of the kids that shoot 4H with mack jr #1 have them. they have never broken down on them.
stiff action? yes
wood not a pretty as B guns? yes
fit and finish as nice as other more expensive models? no
work reliably? yes
for a first-time O/U on a budget you will be ok. also, don't have to worry as much about getting it dinged up when hunting with it.

You will be disappointed with a Yildiz, bottom line, not a very well made gun at all

I generally tell people that brownings are balanced like a 2x4", so I like the quote but not the browning suggestion. my berettas are well balanced. The smaller frame yildiz guns are actually well balanced. Their 28 is on my radar. Action is like a highschool gym locker, but balances and swings well.
